Role Overview:

As a Database Lead at Zepto, you will be responsible for architecting, scaling, and optimizing PostgreSQL/Nosql database systems to ensure high performance, availability, and scalability. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build reliable database solutions that power Zepto's high-throughput applications and ensure seamless customer experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

• Database Architecture & Design: Lead the design and implementation of scalable, high-performance PostgreSQL databases that support Zepto’s rapid growth and evolving business needs.
• Performance Optimization: Analyze, optimize, and tune PostgreSQL databases for performance, including query optimization, indexing strategies, partitioning, and efficient use of resources.
• High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Architect solutions that guarantee high availability, disaster recovery, and data consistency with minimal downtime.
• Data Modeling: Design and implement efficient and scalable data models that meet business requirements and ensure data integrity.
• Scalability: Develop and implement strategies to scale PostgreSQL databases to handle millions of transactions and concurrent users across distributed systems.
• Automation & Monitoring: Implement automation tools and processes for database provisioning, scaling, and monitoring to ensure peak performance and uptime.
• Security: Ensure robust database security by implementing access controls, encryption, and auditing to protect sensitive data.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the engineering, DevOps, and product teams to integrate database solutions with the overall platform architecture.
• Mentorship: Mentor and guide junior database administrators and engineers, providing expertise on best practices, optimization, and scaling techniques.

Required Qualifications:

• Experience: 8+ years of experience with PostgreSQL & Nosql databases in high-traffic, mission-critical environments.
• Database Architecture: Strong experience designing and scaling PostgreSQL databases for high-performance, high-availability systems.
• Optimization Skills: Expertise in query optimization, indexing strategies, and database performance tuning in PostgreSQL.
• Cloud & Distributed Systems: Proven experience deploying and managing PostgreSQL in cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP) and working with distributed systems.
• High Availability: Experience with replication, clustering, and failover solutions to ensure database reliability.
• Automation & Scripting: Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Python, Bash) and experience with infrastructure automation tools like Terraform and Ansible.
• Data Security: In-depth understanding of database security best practices, including encryption and access management.
• Scaling & Monitoring: Hands-on experience with database monitoring tools and scaling strategies for growing user bases.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with PostgreSQL - Amazon RDS
• Experience with MongoDB
• Knowledge of containerized environments like Kubernetes and deploying PostgreSQL within them.
• Familiarity with ETL processes, real-time data analytics, and data warehousing.
• Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment, managing rapid infrastructure growth.
