Purpose of the role
We’re looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Director of Finance to lead our financial operations, control framework, external reporting, and tax functions. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role plays a critical part in building strong financial foundations while driving modernisation across our finance processes.
You’ll thrive in a fast-paced environment where you can balance strategic leadership with hands-on delivery, setting high standards, driving continuous improvement, and enabling growth.
This role can be considered as Interim 3-6 months and with a potential to become permanent.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Control
- Lead all aspects of financial operations, including transactional finance, cash flow, and working capital management.
- Strengthen and embed a robust financial control environment, ensuring integrity, compliance, and scalability.
- Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, delivering accurate and timely results.
External Reporting & Compliance
- Own statutory and regulatory financial reporting (under IFRS), ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance.
- Manage the year-end audit process, serving as the key liaison with external auditors.
- Uphold strong governance and compliance standards across all financial reporting.
Tax & External Relationships
- Oversee all tax matters (corporate, VAT, and employment taxes), ensuring effective compliance and planning.
- Manage relationships with external tax and audit partners, ensuring efficiency and alignment.
- Represent Zego externally on financial and tax matters with professionalism and credibility.
Leadership & Strategic Partnership
- Lead, develop, and inspire the finance team to achieve operational excellence.
- Partner with the CFO and wider leadership team to deliver financial insights that drive business decisions.
- Play a leading role in the ongoing finance transformation, leveraging AI and automation to build a smarter, more data-driven function.
What you’ll need to be successful
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or equivalent) with extensive post-qualification experience in senior finance leadership.
- Strong technical accounting expertise (IFRS / UK GAAP) with a proven track record in external reporting and control.
- Experienced in managing tax, audit, and financial governance in complex, fast-paced environments.
- Commercially aware, strategic, and comfortable operating in a scaling tech-led business.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills — able to influence across the organisation and inspire teams.
- Experience in the motor insurance or insurtech sector is preferred but not essential.
- Passionate about innovation, transformation, and building robust financial foundations for the future.
