Wordsmith
Most legal teams are drowning. They’re buried under internal questions, contract reviews, policy approvals, and constant fire drills.
Wordsmith is the AI command centre for in-house legal. We combine AI, automation, and structured workflows to help legal teams operate at the speed of the businesses they support.
We’re building at the frontier of legal technology, and our Legal Engineering team sits at the centre of how the product actually works.
Why this role is different
This is not a support or advisory role. You’ll sit inside the product team and help define how the product behaves.
You’ll take how strong legal operators think and work, and turn that into systems, workflows, and AI-driven behaviour that scale across every customer.
AI is core to how we build. You’ll be expected to use it, test it, and push it — shaping how it’s applied across real workflows.
You won’t just describe legal work. You’ll define how it gets done.
The Role
You’ll own a domain within the product, going deep on workflows, edge cases, and customer needs.
Working closely with engineers, product managers, and designers, you’ll translate legal expertise into product features, playbooks, and systems.
This role blends legal knowledge, product thinking, and hands-on building.
What you’ll do
Build and Own
Build, curate, and maintain legal workflows, playbooks, and product logic
Translate legal expertise into structured, scalable systems
Continuously improve product quality based on real-world use
Product Development
Contribute to product specs, prototypes, and feature design
Work closely with engineering and design to ship new capabilities
Help define how AI is applied across workflows and use cases
Testing and Evaluation
Design and run testing protocols to assess accuracy, reliability, and usability
Identify gaps, edge cases, and improvement areas
Ensure features are fit for real customer use
Customer Insight
Work directly with customers to understand how they operate
Identify patterns, unmet needs, and high-impact opportunities
Feed insights back into product and roadmap decisions
Use Case Development
Build and maintain a library of high-value use cases
Partner with GTM to support sales conversations and product positioning
What we’re looking for
Strong understanding of how in-house legal teams operate
Experience in legal operations, legal tech, or legal practice
Comfortable working across legal and technical domains
Clear communicator, confident working with customers and stakeholders
High ownership — you take responsibility for outcomes, not just ideas
Curious and proactive — you look for better ways to do things
AI capability (important):
Practical experience using AI tools (work or personal use)
Strong point of view on where AI works, where it breaks, and where it adds value
Willingness to experiment and apply AI directly in product development
Typical backgrounds:
Legal Engineers
Legal Operations professionals
Lawyers or Legal Advisors with an interest in AI and product
How we work
We’re an in-office team in Edinburgh. We work together because it helps us build faster, collaborate closely, and make better product decisions. You should expect to be in the office as your default.
This is a high ownership environment. You’ll be trusted to run projects, define domains, and drive outcomes without heavy oversight.
The problems are often not fully defined. Part of the role is bringing structure and clarity to them.
Why this role matters
The value of legal technology comes from how well it reflects real legal work.
This role ensures the product stays grounded in how legal teams actually operate — and turns that into systems that scale.
What you can expect
Direct impact on product and feature development
Ownership of a domain within the product
Close collaboration with Product, Engineering, and GTM
Opportunity to shape how AI is applied in legal workflows
Competitive salary and meaningful equity
