About Wordsmith AI:

We’re a legal technology startup transforming how legal work is done. Our AI platform empowers legal professionals, streamlines workflows and unlocks new levels of efficiency. Founded by lawyers, engineers and product visionaries, we’re building tools that are both powerful and intuitive. At Wordsmith AI, we value curiosity, collaboration and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in legal tech.

Location: Edinburgh (Hybrid: 3 days in-office)

The role in a nutshell

We’re looking for a paralegal or aspiring paralegal (including a graduate) who’s curious about the future of legal engineering. Maybe you’ve just finished your law degree and wonder if there’s more to legal work than textbooks suggest. Maybe you are a traditional paralegal currently or you simply believe technology can make law more accessible. If you’re detail-oriented, eager to learn and ready to work hard while shaping the future of legal practice, this could be your perfect first step.

This role is ideal for launching your legal career beyond traditional paralegal work. We know you’re a fast learner – you’ve proven that by completing your degree. Now we want to channel that ability, your fresh perspective and your attention to detail into helping shape how AI transforms the legal industry. You don’t need prior work experience or tech expertise. Your academic insights combined with real-world application is exactly what we need.

Your typical day at Wordsmith AI

  • Testing new AI features with real-world scenarios. When it handles something brilliantly, you’ll document it. When it fails, you’ll help fix it.

  • Jumping on calls with customers who are nervous about AI. You’ll show them how our tools handle the boring stuff so their team can focus on interesting work.

  • Collaborating with our product team, explaining why paralegals will thank us for that feature tweak you suggested. Writing guides that help legal teams get started with AI – in plain English.

  • Feeling like you made a difference in how legal work gets done, not just processed documents.

Who would love this job:

The essentials:

  • Paralegal, law degree or paralegal qualification

  • Exceptional attention to detail (the kind that spotted typos in textbooks)

  • Proven ability to learn quickly and adapt

  • Strong work ethic and enthusiasm for new challenges

  • Natural curiosity about how technology improves legal processes

  • Excellent written communication skills

Bonus points for:

  • Any legal work experience (paralegal roles, internships, law clinic volunteering and summer placements definitely count!)

  • Modules, dissertation, or coursework on legal technology/innovation

  • Experience with research and analysis

  • Familiarity with AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude or coding qualifications

  • Part-time work showing reliability and work ethic

Why this role is special:

Unlike traditional paralegal roles, here you’ll be:

- A builder: your ideas directly shape our product

- A teacher: helping others understand and adopt AI

- A pioneer: creating a new type of legal career

We’re not looking for perfection; we’re looking for potential. If you’re eager to learn, willing to experiment and excited about making legal work less tedious, we want to hear from you.

Your growth journey with us:

  • Mentorship - from legal experts and tech innovators

  • Career development – this role can grow in multiple directions

  • Transferable skills - valuable in legal, tech, or your own path

  • Learning culture – mistakes are how we improve

  • Your voice counts – we actually listen when something doesn’t make sense

The package:

  • Competitive paralegal salary (you’re doing more than typical paralegal work)

  • Equity options (benefit from the future you’re building)

  • Flexible hybrid working from Edinburgh

  • Team that celebrates wins and learns from losses

Ready to apply?

Don’t stress about the “perfect” background. If you’re a recent graduate who’s ever thought “there has to be a better way to do this,” we’d love to chat.
