About the role
Wonder is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Vice President of Tax (Head of Tax) to build, lead, and manage all aspects of our global tax function. This is a critical leadership role responsible for developing and executing tax strategies across our diverse and rapidly evolving business lines, ensuring compliance, and optimizing our tax position. Some travel may be required for team collaboration, industry conferences, or tax authority engagements.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Strategy & Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive tax strategies that align with Wonder's overall business objectives, including growth initiatives, M&A activities, and international expansion. Identify and mitigate tax risks across all business lines (Wonder, Grubhub, Blue Apron, Tastemade, Artificial Intelligence).
Tax Compliance & Reporting: Oversee the accurate and timely preparation and filing of all federal, state, local, and foreign tax returns (income, sales & use, property, etc.). Manage tax provisions for financial reporting (ASC 740) and ensure compliance with GAAP. Provide guidance and oversight of operational teams’ reporting and compliance related to payroll taxes, 1099 forms, unclaimed property, and escheatment regulations.
Tax Operations & Management: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing tax team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Manage relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
Strategic Oversight Across Business Lines: Proactively manage tax implications for multi-state physical restaurant operations, complex supply chain logistics, and unique sales & use tax challenges for food sales (including marketplace facilitator rulings, cross border transactions, etc.) and manufacturing. Navigate the evolving tax landscape for the gig economy, addressing independent contractor taxation and local sales taxes on delivery services. Drive tax strategies for subscription-based meal kit models and digital advertising revenue, including international tax complexities for streaming content. Identify and address emerging tax considerations related to AI technologies, such as R&D tax credits and digital services taxes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate extensively with finance, legal, operations, and technology teams to provide expert tax guidance and support for all business initiatives, ensuring tax efficiency and compliance in all new ventures and existing operations.
The experience you have
Minimum of 15+ years of progressive tax experience, with at least 5-7 years in a leadership role (VP of Tax or Head of Tax) within a complex, multi-entity organization, preferably at a public registrant.
Proven experience in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, ideally with exposure to e-commerce, technology, logistics, and/or consumer goods industries.
Demonstrated expertise in U.S. federal and state income tax, sales & use tax, marketplace facilitator rules, international tax principles, and ASC 740.
Strong understanding of transfer pricing concepts and methodologies.
Hands on experience implementing and operating strong controls in a SOX compliant environment.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Master's in Taxation (MST) or JD/LL.M. in Taxation preferred.
CPA certification.

Base Salary: $275,000-$318,000
Our hybrid model requires 3 days a week in the office. That said, many team members choose to come in more often to take advantage of in-person collaboration and connection. You're welcome—and encouraged—to be in the office up to 5 days a week if it works for you.
