We are seeking a strategic Engineering Manager to lead our Telemetry Infrastructure team in India. You will guide the "Paved Road" for telemetry at Cloudera. The Telemetry team owns the global-scale backbone that ingests, processes, and publishes the traces, metrics, and logs powering our hybrid-cloud ecosystem. As an Engineering manager, you will be architecting not just code, but the culture and cross-functional partnerships required to scale OpenTelemetry (OTel) across SaaS and On-Prem environments.

Your team will also have maintenance for a small amount of legacy infrastructure in Cloudera’s Public Cloud environment, taking around 15% of the team’s time for on-call and release support.

As an Engineering Manager, you will:

• Lead, coach, and scale a team of 6–10 elite engineers to forge a high-performance culture. You’ll foster an environment of high accountability, psychological safety, and "extreme ownership" of our Tier-0 telemetry pipeline infrastructure.

• Review artifacts to ensure enterprise grade solutions that address current challenges and enable scalable telemetry platforms for future use for both SaaS and on-prem use cases.

• Partner with APAC, US and EMEA-based teams to ensure telemetry integration is a seamless, "self-service" experience for every internal Cloudera developer.

• Own the technical excellence of our metrics storage and ingestion interfaces. You will ensure 99.99% reliability for services that Cloudera’s Support, Product, and Customers rely on every second

• Ensure the reliability of the observability pipeline through rigorous on-call rotations and monitoring.

• Balance high-velocity innovation (85%) with disciplined maintenance of mission-critical legacy cloud infrastructure (15%), ensuring a sustainable on-call and release rhythm.
  

We’re excited about you if you have:

• A leadership track record of 10+ years in Software Engineering with 2+ years of formal people management, specifically leading teams through complex architectural shifts.

• Observability DNA, a deep understanding of Observability and the OpenTelemetry ecosystem (Collector, SDKs, OTLP, Semantic Conventions) and a passion for modern observability patterns.

• Proven experience managing high-throughput distributed systems on Kubernetes (EKS/AKS/GKE) at a scale that breaks standard configurations.

• Hands-on data pipeline experience with high-volume streaming (Kafka/Pulsar) and a sophisticated understanding of the trade-offs in telemetry sampling and storage.

• Demonstrated ability to manage "up and out," influencing stakeholders and directors across different time zones (US and EMEA) and cultures.
