Job Description:

At Cloudera, we empower people to transform complex data into clear and actionable insights. With as much data under management as the hyperscalers, we're the preferred data partner for the top companies in almost every industry. Powered by the relentless innovation of the open source community, Cloudera advances digital transformation for the world’s largest enterprises.

As a Product Manager focused on Apache Knox, you will define and execute the product vision and strategy for secure access to the Cloudera platform, with Apache Knox serving as the foundational gateway for distributed data services. You will drive the product lifecycle from conception through delivery, collaborating with engineering, customers, partners, and cross-functional teams to scale Knox across enterprise and cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap

  • Define and own the product vision and strategy for the Cloudera Knox gateway, including secure access, API gateway capabilities, identity integration, and enterprise-grade security features based on customer needs and market trends.

  • Build and maintain a prioritized, data-driven product roadmap that aligns with Cloudera’s broader security, hybrid cloud, and data platform strategies.

Product Lifecycle Management

  • Lead the entire product lifecycle — from early discovery and requirements gathering to launch planning, product delivery, and post-launch performance monitoring.

  • Write and refine product requirements (PRDs), user stories, acceptance criteria, and epics in collaboration with engineering and UX teams.

Customer & Market Insight

  • Engage with customers, field teams, and partners to understand technical challenges, pain points related to secure cluster access, authentication integration (Kerberos, LDAP/AD, SSO), API security, and multi-cluster management.

  • Conduct competitive and market analysis to position Knox against alternative secure access solutions and standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with engineering to drive feature prioritization and clarity on technical trade-offs; work with documentation, QA, and support teams to enable successful delivery and adoption.

  • Work with sales, marketing, and customer success to ensure Knox is effectively positioned in go-to-market strategy, enablement content, and customer onboarding.

External Engagement

  • Represent Knox in customer meetings, technical briefings, and industry events; clearly communicate product strategy, wins, and future direction.

Success Metrics

  • Define KPIs for Knox adoption, performance, security posture improvement, customer satisfaction, and business impact; use these to monitor product health and guide prioritization.

    Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience: 3-5+ years in product management for enterprise software or platform products, ideally in security, data infrastructure, or middleware.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of distributed systems, network security models, identity and access management (IAM), API gateway concepts, and reverse proxy architectures. Familiarity with Apache Knox or similar gateway technologies is a strong plus.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and business audiences.

  • Data-Driven: Experience using customer insights and metrics to influence product decisions.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Proven ability to collaborate with engineering, sales, support, and field teams in a matrixed environment.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with big data platforms (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Hive) and Cloudera ecosystem components.

  • Familiarity with enterprise identity and security stacks (Kerberos, SAML, LDAP/AD, OAuth).

  • Previous involvement with open-source projects or community engagement.
