About the Company

At Twenty, we're taking on one of the most critical challenges of our time: defending democracies in the digital age. We develop revolutionary technologies that operate at the intersection of the cyber and electromagnetic domains, where the speed of operations exceeds human sensing and complexity transcends conventional boundaries. Our team doesn't just solve problems – we deliver game-changing outcomes that directly impact national security. We're pragmatic optimists who understand that while our mission of protecting America and its allies is challenging, success is possible.

Role Summary

We’re hiring our first accounting leader to build the foundation of the accounting function at Twenty.

This is a high-ownership role on the Finance and Operations team. You will own core accounting workflows, build scalable systems and controls, and help prepare the company for future audit requirements. You should be excited to operate in ambiguity, build from scratch, and use AI-native tools to improve speed and leverage across the function.

This role is especially well-suited for candidates with a mix of Big 4 (or equivalent) audit experience and startup accounting experience who want broad ownership inside a high-growth defense technology company.

What You’ll Do

  • Own day-to-day accounting operations and monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes

  • Build scalable, accurate, and audit-ready accounting workflows from the ground up

  • Identify opportunities to automate and streamline processes as transaction volume grows

  • Partner with leadership to prepare the business for future audits, including building the right controls and process roadmap

  • Manage relationships with external partners, including tax firms, bookkeeping providers, auditors, vendors, and government stakeholders

  • Evaluate and implement modern financial systems and workflows, including AI-enabled tools and system integrations

  • Develop internal policies and operating processes across areas like expense management, procurement, and cash controls

  • Support high-priority cross-functional initiatives, which may include compensation analysis, contracting support, real estate planning, and operational process design

  • Step into adjacent workflows when needed across Legal, HR, and office operations to help a small team scale effectively

What We’re Looking For

  • 4 to 8 years of experience in accounting, finance, or audit

  • Experience in Big 4 or equivalent public accounting, plus experience at a high-growth technology company

  • Strong understanding of accounting operations, internal controls, and audit readiness

  • Experience implementing or managing modern finance systems such as ERP, spend management, and payroll platforms

  • Advanced Excel and Google Sheets skills

  • Strong attention to detail and a high bar for accuracy and quality

  • Ability to balance speed and judgment in a fast-moving startup environment

  • Highly self-directed and comfortable identifying gaps without waiting for instruction

  • Excited to explore new technologies, including AI tools, to improve efficiency and output

  • Low ego and pragmatic about when to automate and when to solve problems manually

Nice to Have

  • Current or former CPA

  • Experience with DCAA compliance or government contracts

  • Experience in defense technology, national security, or cybersecurity

  • Familiarity with Ramp, Campfire, or similar finance tooling
