What is the role:
We are looking for a Senior Member of Technical Staff - Cloud Governance to join our Cloud Automation team to play a key role in cloud and CDW cost control strategy and implementation. The right candidate for this role considers Cost as a very critical KPI for SaaS infrastructure and has a passion to develop automations tools to optimize cost while ensuring scalability, agility and maintaining performance of cloud infrastructure. You will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting the cost management practices, developing cloud and Data warehousing optimizations and rightsizing opportunities, designing and enhancing architectural models. You will lead, develop, and implement the processes and capabilities required to ensure cost optimization.
Responsibilities
- Analyze spend trends, find opportunities for savings, and provide advisory services for improvement recommendations.
- Recommend savings opportunities related to cloud commitment purchases (Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, Spot, Committed/Sustained use) and track utilization of these commitments.
- Analyze resource usage and conduct concerted effort to eliminate unused cloud services / zombie instances and simplify process; implement rigorous processes to prevent unused services in the future.
- Partake in creating, maturing, and governing cost optimization policies and best practices.
- Develop customer-level view of consumption data and ensure reporting is simple and widely available to all stakeholders in real-time.
- Familiarize yourself with usage trends and product roadmaps to optimize consumption rates and forecast cloud spend.
- Create awareness and impact change in cloud infrastructure costs.
- Proactively partner/collaborate with technology and business professionals at various levels within the organization to optimize cloud spend.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and growth mindset, be enthusiastic about learning new technologies, and apply the gained knowledge to address problems.
- Demonstrate a collaborative, team-focused approach.
- Develop Automations to implement adherence and governance of cost optimization policies.
- Be an expert in cloud infrastructure by developing automation and best practices.
Required skills/qualifications
- B.Tech. degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- 7+ years of relevant consulting or industry experience, driving & delivering Cloud projects
- 2-4 years of experience working in a cloud automation/engineering role with a cost optimization or architecture focus
- Experience in creating data visualisation and dashboards for stakeholders
- Implement and configure technology to report on Cloud consumption, perform ongoing monitoring of Cloud spend and provide recommendations to optimize Cloud costs
- Experience with Cloud Financial Management tools (e.g. AWS Cost Explorer)
- Experience in cost analysis and good understanding of cloud hyperscaler cost usage reports
- Understanding of cloud cost management processes such as chargeback and showback
- High level understanding of cloud and Data warehouse architecture and associated pricing structure.
- Understanding of cloud value realisation and defining FinOps KPI for benefit tracking post cloud optimization policy enablement
- Ability to support stakeholders in understanding their cloud spend based on their business roadmap and budgeted forecast.
- Experience in defining instance tagging mechanisms & monitoring controls for excessive usage of cloud services
- Experience in AWS/ GCP / Azure ( atleast one is preferred)
- Experience/ Knowledge in Kubernetes and Microservice will be a bonus.
- Experience in CDW such as Snowflake, Redshift, Google Big Query, Azure SQL.
- Proficient in programming in Terraform, Python, Go, or Java.
- Ability to diagnose technical problems, debug code and automate tasks.
- Strong problem-solving skills, algorithmic thinking, and a strong foundation in how systems should work.
- Understanding of tools & frameworks required to Operate and manage Cloud infrastructure.
- Solid communication skills and ability to work independently.
- Any FinOps certification such as FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) or any Public Cloud Certification(s) (AWS, MS Azure, GCP) will be bonus.
