Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies - from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups - use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Stripe’s tax team is responsible for ensuring Stripe’s products are tax compliant. We proactively engage and partner with the product team to gain comprehensive insights to Stripe products, evolving product strategy, and desired business outcomes. We strive to achieve comprehensive tax outcomes that align with the product team’s goals, while maintaining tax integrity. We provide tax requirements to cross-functional partners and ensure they are implemented. We also identify process gaps and support finance operations across various functions, fostering collaboration and adaptability.

What you’ll do

We are seeking an experienced tax professional to join our world-class tax team, focusing on products developed by our recently acquired company, Bridge. You will support our efforts to help scale Bridge’s tax processes for the future, as we support rapid growth in a fast-paced environment. In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for navigating the tax landscape primarily related to Bridge’s crypto products and will involve collaboration with various cross-functional teams to develop and implement compliant and effective product solutions that meet Bridge’s tax obligations.

This role reports to the crypto product lead within Stripe’s tax team, and is strongly preferred to be based in San Francisco. This role ideally will have an in-office presence at both the Bridge San Francisco office and the Stripe South San Francisco office.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary tax contact for end-to-end product launch readiness, collaborating with diverse cross-functional teams across Bridge and Stripe, on a variety of tax issues related to the development of Bridge products, all while maintaining a strong moral compass and integrity.
  • Identify and analyze various tax issues associated with Bridge product launches (e.g., indirect tax, information reporting, transfer pricing, income tax) and work closely with tax subject matter experts to deliver tax requirements to product teams effectively.
  • Draft and implement comprehensive policies and procedures for cross-functional partners regarding key tax issues and requirements that impact Bridge product operations, ensuring they are updated in line with current tax laws.
  • Support internal user-facing teams, such as Account Managers, Sales, and User Operations, in addressing product needs and inquiries related to Bridge tax matters.
  • Review and provide guidance on tax-related external communications related to Bridge products drafted by Marketing and/or User Operations.
  • Assist with additional tax projects as needed.

Who you are

We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 6-8+ years of experience in taxation, gained from an accounting/audit firm and/or in-house (preferably within financial services or another payment processor). A mix of both in-house and firm experience is strongly preferred.
  • A solid understanding of various tax subject areas, including indirect tax, information reporting, withholding, transfer pricing and income tax reporting, along with experience in operationalizing these rules at scale.
  • Exceptional time-management and project-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with the capacity to adapt communication styles for different audiences (users, product teams, advisors, etc.). You will need to translate complex tax laws into actionable requirements for product and engineering teams.
  • Strong prioritization skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • A passion for tackling complex problems!
  • Integrity, empathy, humility, and a sense of humor.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience dealing with tax issues related to global cryptocurrency operations (such as regulatory compliance and digital asset management).
  • An advanced degree or professional qualification (CPA, JD, or equivalent; Masters in Tax or LLM) in tax law.
  • Experience working in high-growth, rapidly scaling environments.
  • Familiarity with technology, payments, or financial services sectors.
  • A willingness to collaborate with a diverse team of tax professionals who are deeply committed to addressing Stripe’s tax challenges while supporting one another.
Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.

The annual US base salary range for this role is $139,200 - $208,800. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.
