About Somethings

Somethings is building the first social wellness platform for teens — a place where a teen can form a real relationship with a mentor who gets them, sticks with them, and helps them get better.

25 Million teens in the U.S. are struggling with their mental health. Every one of the thousands of teens who downloads Somethings is struggling. Our job is to make sure they don’t just show up — they stay, connect with real humans who care deeply about them, and get the support that they need to thrive.

We’re backed by General Catalyst and world-class healthcare + consumer investors, and we’re growing like crazy — in 2025 we grew 1100%, raised our $15M Series A, and are on track to 5x in 2026.

If you want to be a part of the generationally defining company in mental health, welcome home.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a Senior Full Stack React Engineer to join our small, high-ownership engineering team and help build the core product experiences that drive our mission forward.

The work is high agency, high craft, and high impact:

You will directly shape the product experiences that help teens stay, connect, and genuinely get better.

What You’ll Do

You won’t just “build features.” You’ll take full ownership of core missions tied directly to our 2026 strategy:

1. Make teen × mentor experiences magical

  • Ship mobile experiences that feel warm, fast, and deeply human

  • Improve the “first week” journey — onboarding, matching, early engagement

  • Build UI that feels as intuitive and addictive as top consumer social apps

2. Build tools that safely scale our mentor operation

  • Create mentor-facing features that increase consistency, speed, and connection

  • Build safety surfaces that proactively detect risk and reduce human error

  • Improve mentor workflows so that they feel empowered, not burdened, by our tools

3. Own full-stack product development

  • Build end-to-end features across React, backend services, and APIs

  • Collaborate closely with design, product, growth, and clinical ops

  • Run user conversations with teens and mentors to deeply understand product needs

  • Maintain a clean, scalable codebase as we grow quickly

Who you are

  • You have 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including deep work with React Native.

  • You have a strong understanding of mobile app architecture, common design patterns, and performance optimization.

  • You’re comfortable with mobile engineering workflows — CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, release processes — and you enjoy improving them.

  • You love building pixel-perfect, fast, and reliable user interfaces across platforms and screen sizes.

  • You care deeply about quality and craft, and you’re motivated by creating products that real people love using.

  • You’re a clear, direct, and thoughtful communicator who collaborates well with others.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field — or equivalent practical experience.

  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, including Node.js and modern React patterns (components, hooks, state management).

  • Experience shipping apps for both iOS and Android, including the deployment and release process.

  • Hands-on experience integrating REST/GraphQL APIs, working with offline storage, push notifications, and authentication flows.

  • Experience with state management libraries such as Redux or MobX.

  • Knowledge of React navigation, animations, and performance tuning techniques.

  • Experience using Git, writing unit tests, and working within CI/CD pipelines.

  • Prior experience publishing apps to the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

  • Experience working with native modules in Objective-C/Swift and/or Java/Kotlin.

How We Work

We’re building a culture that blends high performance, deep belonging, and radical clarity:

  • We care about outcomes, not theatrics

  • We move quickly and learn constantly

  • We speak the truth early

  • We protect focus

  • We hold a high bar for craft and quality

  • We’re small, intense, collaborative, and mission-driven

  • We care about each other, and we care about the millions of teens we serve

If you’re looking for a place where you can have real ownership and build something that genuinely changes lives, this is it.

Work Environment

  • This is a full-time hybrid position in person in our NYC office in Williamsburg. We consider fully remote for exceptional talent.

  • We have an output-driven culture and provide lots of flexibility throughout the week as needed.

What We Offer

  • 💰 The annual salary range for this position is $160,000 - $225,000.

  • 📈 Significant equity compensation, reflecting your foundational role and impact.

  • 🏥 Comprehensive health insurance coverage.

  • 🎯 Significant work ownership and autonomy

  • 🎉 Unlimited days off

Job level and actual compensation will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process (including skills and relevant prior experience, potential impact, and scope of role), market demands, and specific work location. The listed range is a guideline, and the range for this role may be modified.
