We’re looking for an iOS Engineer to join the Media Delivery Platform team! We’re a highly collaborative team that builds an end-to-end media platform, including encoding, transcoding, editing, uploading, ingestion, storage, media life cycle management, replication, delivery and playback. This is an unique opportunity to own one of our most critical platforms and make impacts to hundreds of millions of Snapchatters.

You’ll work on state of art video technologies, lead skillful engineers with video expertises, and build a video platform that powers critical Snap user experiences. If you’re passionate about video technologies and eager to make an impact, join us to shape the future of media at Snap.

What you’ll do:

  • Design and improve multiple iOS media frameworks including transcoding, player to be utilized across Snap’s main flow.

  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and partner teams to implement best-in-class media technologies for Snapchatters.

  • Explore emerging media technologies to push the boundaries of mobile devices, delivering exceptional media experiences.

  • Provide technical leadership and apply engineering best practices to initiate, plan, and execute cross-functional projects.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven understanding of Swift, Objective-C, and processes which run “under the hood”

  • Proficiency with multithreading and performance optimization techniques for mobile applications

  • Strong CS fundamentals (algorithms and data structures) and problem-solving skills

  • Proven understanding of iOS media frameworks like AVFoundation, AVPlayer, etc


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in technical field such as computer science, mathematics, statistics or equivalent years of experience

  • 7+ years of experience in developing mobile applications for the iOS environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience with video playback frameworks like AVFoundation, Core Media, and VideoToolbox, or strong proficiency in open-source platforms such as VLC and FFMpeg.

  • Experience with image rendering and processing using OpenGL/Metal.

  • Experience in developing and optimizing mobile video players.

  • Experience with C/C++ with media related production development.

Compensation

In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The starting pay may be negotiable within the salary range for the position. These pay zones may be modified in the future.

Zone A (CA, WA, NYC):

The base salary range for this position is $202,000-$303,000 annually.


Zone B:

The base salary range for this position is $192,000-$288,000 annually.

Zone C:

The base salary range for this position is $172,000-$257,000 annually.

This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
