Our Senior Statutory and Tax Accountant will join our Paris-based finance team of eight professionals to own the accounting and tax operations for Shift’s French head entity while supporting our global subsidiaries. Reporting to the Head of Accounting, you will be a key driver in our transformation journey to bring tax and accounting functions in-house. You will rebuild internal processes and controls, collaborating with partners, to refresh how our tools support a scaling international AI company. This role is critical for a professional who balances technical French GAAP expertise with the right mindset to navigate the challenges of a fast-paced, global environment.

- Jump In & Own It:
- Take full responsibility for the French head entity’s daily accounting, including payroll posting, bank reconciliations, and GL maintenance to keep delivery on track without waiting for direction.
- Manage VAT and corporate tax filings with precision, using both technical expertise and sound judgment to coordinate with external auditors.
- Ensure all statutory filings and intercompany reconciliations reach measurable completion, taking accountability for the final outcome of every audit.
- Simplify the Complex: Streamline month-end and year-end close processes for intercompany accounting to drive accurate French GAAP and IFRS-ready financials and establish appropriate controls.
- Spot the Invisible: Accurately classify and track R&D project costs for CIR submissions (in partnership with a service provider), identifying patterns in spending that impact our long-term tax strategy.
- Solve Without Drama: Address audit queries and technical accounting challenges directly, focusing on clear solutions and professional composure.
- Help Others Grow: Mentor junior accounting staff by sharing lessons learned and providing constructive feedback to build team confidence.
- Test, Learn, Scale: Proactively experiment with new processes or tools to improve delivery speed, sharing your findings broadly to help the finance organization learn faster.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
We are looking for a Shifter who is:
- French Accounting and Regulatory Specialist:
- You hold a DCG/DSCG degree and have 7+ years of progressive experience, ideally within an accounting firm or multinational corporation.
- You possess strong practical knowledge of French GAAP and French tax rules, including VAT and corporate tax compliance.
- You have a demonstrated interest or expertise in accounting for R&D capitalized costs and tax credit regulations.
- Systems Oriented: You have advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems; familiarity with NetSuite or Coupa is a significant plus. You look for ways to automate manual processes to increase efficiency.
- Bilingual: You are a fluent English speaker with an advanced or native command of French, both written and spoken.
