Job Description
Section is an AI transformation company that helps organizations get real value from generative AI. AI-powered workforces will have a sustained competitive advantage over the next decade, but most of the workforce is unprepared. We help organizations plan their AI transformation, upskill their workforce, and integrate AI into their workflows and business processes – all with the goal of driving real productivity gains and ROI. As part of our growth, we are looking for an experienced Finance Director to lead our small finance team. This role requires a strategic finance professional who understands the complexities of enterprise consulting revenue, SaaS subscription models, and the unique financial dynamics of AI-driven businesses. The ideal candidate can combine technical accounting expertise with business acumen to drive financial strategy and operational excellence.
What you’ll do:
Monthly Close Management: Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes ensuring GAAP compliance and timely reporting
Revenue Recognition: Manage complex revenue recognition for multiple streams including enterprise consulting engagements, SaaS subscriptions, and AI licensing arrangements
Financial Reporting: Prepare executive-level financial statements, variance analysis, and KPI dashboards for leadership team
Internal Controls: Develop and maintain robust financial controls and processes to support company growth
Financial Planning: Lead annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and long-range strategic planning processes
Deal Analysis: Evaluate enterprise consulting engagements for profitability, resource allocation, and risk assessment
Metrics & KPIs: Establish and monitor key financial metrics specific to AI consulting and SaaS business models
Pricing Strategy: Partner with leadership to develop competitive pricing models for AI services and products and sales team to ensure contract structures make sense
Contract Review: Support legal and sales teams in structuring financially optimal client agreements
Tax management: Work with tax vendor to ensure taxes are compliant and on time
Who you are:
CPA or equivalent professional accounting certification
5+ years of progressive finance experience with at least 3 years in a senior finance role
Enterprise Consulting Background: Direct experience with project-based revenue recognition and consulting business models
SaaS Revenue Experience: Proven track record managing subscription-based revenue streams and related metrics
GAAP Expertise: Strong technical accounting skills with experience in complex revenue recognition (ASC 606)
Technical capabilities: Advanced Excel/Google Sheet model capabilities, familiarity with CRM systems (including Salesforce) and integration with financial reporting
Month-End Close: Demonstrated ability to manage efficient, accurate monthly close processes
AI power user: Leveraging AI in your finance tasks to increase efficiency and productivity
BONUS: Background in AI, machine learning, or technology consulting environments preferred
BONUS: Proficiency with modern ERP systems and financial planning tools
BONUS: Experience building and managing finance teams in growing organizations preferred
Compensation
Salary: $150K-$160K base salary with $15K-$25K annual bonus based on experience
