Chief of Staff to the COO
At Section, we’re building the business school of the age of AI. We’ve educated more than 25,000 students from 3,000+ companies since March 2020, delivering world-class business education taught by expert executives on topics including business strategy, AI, marketing, product, and leadership. We currently partner directly with 100+ companies to train and upskill their teams, and see 10x adoption and completion inside these organizations vs. traditional online upskilling platforms.
We are looking for a curious, research-minded Chief of Staff to the COO. In this role, you’ll partner with our COO Taylor Malmsheimer and the rest of our leadership team, increasing her and her team’s output. We’re looking for an entrepreneurial, scrappy generalist who’s equally at home analyzing data, building a Google Slides presentation, or presenting to prospective partners. You will also work at times directly with the CEO.
Your first projects will include developing and executing our partnerships strategy, testing and improving our AI course tutor bot, and creating content for our COO and leadership team. This is a great opportunity to ride alongside our leadership team and learn the ins and outs of building a startup.
This is a remote position based in the US, with a preference for candidates in the Bay Area. Compensation is $110,000 to $130,000.
What you’ll do:
-Develop and execute our partnerships strategy at Section – this includes building a list of target partners, executing partner outreach, presenting to potential partners, negotiating contracts, and project managing partnerships internally
-Develop, test, and run an affiliate program for Section, targeting 100 sales in the first six months of 2024
-Synthesize internal and external data into insights to influence business strategy and strategic decisions
-Conduct customer interviews and report insights to inform strategic business decisions
-Develop research, analysis, and insights to support the development of marketing content and Section courses for the COO and CEO
-Serve as an internal research resource for the leadership team, handling ad-hoc requests for quick, scrappy analyses
-Collaborate cross-functionally across the organization, pinch-hitting with the product, marketing, operations, enterprise, and data teams
Who you are:
-3+ years of experience in a highly analytical and strategic role that requires synthesizing research and analysis into recommendations; candidates with experience in strategy, business operations, or business development at fast-growing early stage companies are encouraged to apply
-High proficiency with Excel is required, SQL proficiency is preferred
-You’re comfortable using models and frameworks (e.g. SWOT) and using these to get to a strong first draft
-You have client-facing experience and are confident translating client needs into potential options with upsides and tradeoffs for the internal team to weigh
-You’re an AI power user, already exploring with ChatGPT, Claude, or other language models
-You’re a strong writer and presentation builder who’s equally at home writing a brief or creating a slide deck; you’re a whiz in Google Slides
-You’re intellectually curious and detail-oriented, with a penchant for over delivering on tight deadlines
-You can balance speed with thoroughness to get to high fidelity analyses quickly
-You thrive with the ambiguity and responsibility required in high growth startups
