Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Special Projects & Technical Accounting Senior Manager to join our accounting team. In this role, you will serve as the subject matter expert for complex accounting issues, ensuring compliance with US GAAP within our business processes and systems. You will also take charge of ad-hoc projects within the accounting organization to ensure scalability, automation and various compliance requirements. You’ll play a critical role in scaling the accounting organization to meet the ever-expanding needs of the business.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the in-house expert on technical accounting matters, including but not limited to revenue recognition (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), business combinations (ASC 805), stock-based compensation (ASC 718), and financial instruments (ASC 815). Prepare technical memos documenting positions and conclusions.
- Monitor new accounting pronouncements and lead the implementation of relevant standards within business processes and systems cross-functionally.
- Take charge of ad hoc projects, leading them from start to finish with minimal guidance.
- Identify and drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and scalability efforts as the business grows.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to accounting team members on complex transactions.
- Assist in preparing internal and external financial statements, investor reporting, and audit deliverables.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting, with a mix of public accounting (Big 4 preferred) and in-house (startup or high-growth company preferred)
- Deep understanding of US GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls and audit processes.
- Ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
- Experience in defense, aerospace, or government contracting highly desirable. Strong understanding of cost accounting, government compliance (FAR/DFARS), and project accounting a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset. Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated experience in drafting technical accounting memos and policies.
- Experience with ERP systems (Netsuite preferred) and accounting research tools.
