About the role:

Samsara is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join our Operational Excellence team (OPX) in Core Infra. Core Infra is responsible for developing the infrastructure platform that powers Samsara’s connected operations cloud. The OPX team’s mission is to provide Samsara software engineering teams the platform capabilities and internal tools to deliver and operate highly available software systems. OPX empowers teams with the observability capabilities and developer tooling necessary to measure and improve their software’s health and performance.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop our Internal Developer Portal (Backstage) to to enhance service health monitoring, streamline API discoverability, integrate tools for comprehensive oversight of system performance, costs and reliability to name a few
  • Build upon skills and knowledge across a range of technologies such as Go, Typescript, React, Terraform, AWS. Previous experience in all these technologies is not required
  • Take ownership and/or lead the engineering responsibility for multiple components in a project
  • Drive operational excellence in our platform, through continuous improvement to our paved path to production, architectural review and operational readiness review practices
  • Provide our product teams with effective and easy-to-use tools to measure and improve cost-efficiency and service reliability
  • Contribute on-call and incident response capabilities that improve how all teams operate their services with confidence
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of experience on infrastructure and/or platform engineering focused teams
  • Resides either in the United Kingdom, or Netherlands
  • Experience working on large-scale enterprise software applications
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experienced at writing high quality code on the Frontend and Backend side (in JavaScript, TypeScript, Python or Go) focused on infrastructure, deployment and operations challenges

An ideal candidate also has:

  • Experienced with Infrastructure as Code (Iac) - Terraform
  • Strong communication skills and desire to collaborate across teams
  • Experienced in building and using observability tools, frameworks, and standards
  • Familiarity with operational metrics and data analysis
