About the role:

Samsara’s Connected Equipment business is our newest and fastest growing product line generating over $100M in ARR. The Connected Equipment business helps customers improve the safety, efficiency, and sustainability across a breadth of assets - from unpowered equipment to generators to trailers and more. We’re looking for a Director of Hardware Engineering to solve important and impactful problems for our customers by leading a team bringing new products to life.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead a Team: Develop and grow an excellent hardware design team with a passion for shipping terrific products to our customers.
  • Be Entrepreneurial: Help identify meaningful problems to solve, influence and inform the business case for those products, then go execute and solve those problems.
  • Be an Owner and Ship Products: Figure out the right product to build and the right way to build it. Create detailed hardware specifications, navigate the tradeoffs between performance, quality, time to market, cost, and ship.
  • Develop Internal Relationships: Partner with Firmware, Software, Product Management, Supply Chain, Operations, and Go to Market teams to help solve our customers problems.
  • Develop External Relationships: Partner with top semiconductor, JDM, certification and component companies to help design, validate, certify, and manufacture our products.
  • Research: Stay abreast of the latest silicon/technology advancements and companies and evaluate. Be curious and think about how to leverage those trends for our customers.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.
  • Hire, develop, and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high performing team.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Successful track record of 10+ years relevant experience in product development (commercial and consumer).
  • Experience building a team of engineers and hands-on technical leadership.
  • Solid embedded systems experience in low power devices, digital/analog circuit design, RF, and electromechanical design.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% to Asia when necessary.

An ideal candidate also has:

  • M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Samsara’s Compensation Philosophy: Samsara’s compensation program is designed to deliver total compensation (based on role, level, and geography) that is above market. We do this through our base salary + bonus/variable + restricted stock unit awards (RSUs). A new hire RSU award is awarded at the time of hire, and additional RSU refresh grants may be awarded annually.

We pay for performance, and top performers are eligible to receive above target equity refresh awards which allow employees to achieve higher market positioning.

The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below. Please note that base pay offered may vary depending on factors including your city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
