About the role:
Samsara’s Legal team strives to create value and ensure that Samsara meets its mission by providing accessible and business-oriented legal guidance. We do so through creative problem solving, excellence and transparency in execution, while exhibiting good judgment in providing ethical and empathetic partnership across the business.
Samsara’s Commercial Legal team is looking to hire its first dedicated Contracts Manager with significant experience in contracts management and legal project management, including contract lifecycle management, management of contract templates and playbooks, and negotiation of standard contracts. In this role, you will help build and scale the organizational backbone and contracts management function for the Commercial Legal Team by managing initiatives and supporting projects across a range of commercial and contracts-related legal issues. You will focus on managing, building, and implementing scalable contract management and commercial legal tools and workflows in coordination with attorneys and multiple internal teams and stakeholders. Under attorney supervision, you will also be responsible for negotiating and drafting standard contracts with Samsara customers, business partners, and vendors. You will use your strong legal and interpersonal skills to build relationships with attorneys and cross-functional partners and to ensure contracts are aligned with business objectives and needs. In this role, you will:
- Implement and manage Samsara’s contracts lifecycle management tools and serve as their primary systems administrator
- Manage and maintain contract templates and playbooks
- Under attorney supervision, negotiate and draft standard contracts with Samsara vendors, business partners, and customers
- Build, implement, and manage scalable commercial and contract-related workflows and initiatives in coordination with Commercial attorneys and cross-functional teams
- Build strong relationships within the Commercial legal team and with cross-functional partners, including Sales, Sales Operations, Procurement, Business Technologies, Finance, Customer Outcomes, and Marketing
- Identify and drive strategic opportunities to streamline and scale commercial processes and workflows and provide related administrative support
- Help to grow and scale a best-in-class commercial legal function
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
Minimum requirements for the role:
- BA/BS with a strong academic record
- 5+ years of contracts management experience, including implementation and management of SaaS contract lifecycle management tools
- Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts under attorney supervision
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to effectively manage and improve commercial processes and tools
- Strong attention to detail and self-initiative with desire for impact
- Passion for driving process improvement initiatives
- Highly proactive self-starter who consistently delivers
- Adaptable, flexible, and creative
- Aptitude for building strong cross-functional working relationships
An ideal candidate also has:
- Notary license (can also be licensed after joining)
- Experience at a SaaS-based technology company
- Experience with software license agreements
