About the role:

We are seeking an influential Director of Diversity Programs to drive programs and scale business line DEI experiments across departments at Samsara.

As the Director of DEI (Diversity, Equity Inclusion) Programs, you will work with cross functional teams across the business, to lead the creation, development, launch, and reporting of DEI programs that will help Samsara progress towards our DEI goals.

In this role, you will:

  • Work with the People Team, Talent Management, Communications, Legal and business teams across the globe to translate best practices into specific diversity actions that meet the needs of our businesses and populations.
  • Leverage data -- quantitative, as well as anecdotal -- to identify root causes and barriers to inclusion, and to define and evaluate the success of structural, and programmatic interventions.
  • Leverage data analysis to inspire action and drive outcomes, which may include preparing meaningful diversity metrics and reports communicating progress against plans that reinforce accountability.
  • Define and implement inclusive experiments (pilots) with clear success criteria
  • Evaluate diversity and program data to ensure we are implementing meaningful and needle-moving actions.
  • Assess risks, anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, make tradeoffs, and balance the business needs as you implement centralized diversity program execution.
  • Interact directly with Project Sponsors, Recruiting, and subject matter experts across multiple business environments to ensure adoption of programs, mechanisms, resources, and guidance.
  • Retrieve, present and analyze data from People Analytics team and other key databases to manage and deliver the preparation of MBRs and QBRs.
  • Develops and monitors key performance indicators to allow for effective measurement of the DEI Programs.
  • Track and communicate results against committed diversity actions.
  • Assesses and monitors program effectiveness and keeps the business team informed through periodic reports.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to assess potential barriers and develop strategies to recruit and retain a diverse workforce.
  • Maintains knowledge, subject matter expertise, and thought leadership in areas of culture transformation, diversity and inclusion, workforce planning and employee engagement while maintaining an awareness and point of view on trends and best practices.
  • Operate effectively in an ambiguous environment, taking ownership for delivery and driving results
  • Drive effective teamwork, communication, collaboration and commitment across multiple groups with competing priorities.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
  • Hire, develop and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high performing team

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a global organization with a focused leadership role in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programming.
  • Experience managing a team of DEI Program Managers/Business Partners
  • Successful candidates will have experience driving programs and analyzing data to drive meaningful action, be detail-oriented, and have excellent problem solving abilities
  • Demonstrated success in working collaboratively to develop and implement recruitment, engagement and retention strategies focused on building a diverse workforce
  • Demonstrated experience in program development/design that is customizable and scalable; able to effectively tailor and present initiatives to a diverse group of constituents.
  • Experience working globally with understanding of how culture is informed by working norms and regional perspectives.
  • Established thought leadership in diversity inclusion with experience developing and implementing best-in-class DEI strategies and programs in global organizations.
  • Must have a demonstrated track record of managing multiple concurrent projects and driving them to completion.

An ideal candidate also has:

  • MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • Possess an analytical mindset and data informed approach to challenges and opportunities
  • Be a strong communicator and expert storyteller, with the ability to articulate a vision that inspires others and brings them together.
  • Demonstrate strong cultural acuity and the ability to work in diverse teams and groups and across geographies with a high level of agility and capacity to participate in others business critical initiatives as required.
  • Ability to innovate and challenge current norms to drive change in the organization and work with people of varying backgrounds and organizational levels.
  • Intense sense of urgency, curiosity, and ambition to excel and build something from the ground up, navigating all the requisite ambiguity and complexity that comes with writing the rulebook while executing in real time.
  • Demonstrated success in identifying and implementing best practices of diversity and inclusion and an excellent command of diversity, equity and inclusion concepts and issues
  • Ability to independently plan, organize, schedule, coordinate and make decisions and judgment relating to assigned projects and other responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness and agility and ability to build trust, credibility and navigate a complex landscape
  • Be passionate about delivering meaningful diversity solutions, but should also be obsessed with contributing to the development of high-performance teams through rigorous goal-setting, performance metrics, and continuous process improvement.
Samsaras Compensation Philosophy: Samsaras compensation program is designed to deliver total compensation (based on role, level, and geography) that is above market. We do this through our base salary + bonus/variable + restricted stock units (RSUs). RSUs are awarded at hire and may be refreshed annually. Additionally, as a pay-for-performance company, there are additional RSU grant awards for top performers which allow employees to achieve higher market positioning.
The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below. Please note that base pay offered may vary depending on factors including your city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
$144,000 $225,000 USD
