At Relativity Space, we have two audacious goals: to build the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and to become America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Both contribute to our long-term vision of creating humanity’s industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to expand the possibilities of the human experience. This journey begins right here on Earth – where we design, build, and fly rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable rocket, fulfills the growing demand for launch capacity, thanks to our iterative approach that accelerates design, testing, and development while minimizing costs. While our groundbreaking research and development in 3D printing pushes the boundaries of large-scale additive manufacturing.
Your journey with us is more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate, creative individuals. Join us on this extraordinary journey, as we work together to transform our vision into reality.
Team:
The Structures & Mechanisms team at Relativity is instrumental in bringing our launch vehicles from design to reality. As a Mechanisms Build Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the manufacturing, assembly, and testing phases of our launch vehicle integrated structures and flight mechanisms. This position involves hands-on involvement and project management of the full product lifecycle, offering the unique opportunity to see your work come to life through cutting-edge manufacturing processes, at our state-of-the-art facility in Long Beach, CA. Your contribution will be vital in the successful launch of Terran R, among other groundbreaking projects.
What you’ll do:
In your role as a Mechanisms Build Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to optimize development and streamline the transition from design to production, of key Terran-R components such as Grid Fins, Thrust-Vector Actuators, and Landing Legs. You will:
• Work with design engineers to optimize the hardware and system they operate in for delivery.
• Optimize manufacturing schedules and processes for efficient production.
• Identify and resolve technical and logistical challenges in the build phase.
• Collaborate closely with teams such as Design Engineering, Manufacturing, GNC, Avionics, and Fluids to ensure a seamless transition from design to build and remove roadblocks.
• Source reliable vendors and utilize internal resources effectively for the manufacture of flight hardware.
• Drive development testing and iterative design principles of mechanism flight hardware.
• Implement quality control measures and oversee testing to ensure the fidelity of final products.
Your mission will be to ensure the timely, cost-effective build of both development and production space flight mechanisms which is vital to rapid vehicle launch and re-use. Your ability to navigate ambiguity, lead projects independently, and collaborate effectively will be key to your success.
