Company Overview:

We invented a new approach to design, build, and fly our own rockets, starting with Terran 1 – the world’s first entirely 3D printed rocket and Terran R our reusable next generation 3D printed rocket.

Using our vertically integrated technology platform, leveraging additive manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and autonomous robotics to deliver superiority over traditional aerospace manufacturing methods, we’re disrupting 60 years of aerospace with our novelty approach to get to space, Mars, and beyond faster, more cost-effective, and more reliable.

We believe in a future where interplanetary life fundamentally expands the possibilities for human experience. Our long-term vision is to upgrade humanity’s industrial base on Earth and on Mars.

Team:

The Factory Test team is responsible for providing a set of common test capabilities to all departments in the factory. These include the design and build of test equipment, administering our data collection system, reviewing designs and standards, and conducting hazardous test operations. Some examples of the tests we conduct include static load testing, dynamic mechanism testing, cryogenic flow testing, and high pressure pneumatic testing. As a part of the Data and Control System (DACS) group, this role will focus on the software tools and automation supporting test operations across our rocket factory.

What you’ll do:

[Hardware focus]

  • Design advanced control and data acquisition systems for various test stands, including panel layouts, power and load analysis, fabrication drawings, and instrumentation lists
  • Solve a wide range of technical challenges, across broad ranges of timeframe, complexity, cost, and long-term impact
  • Support test operations and perform related improvements to existing test stands

[Software Focus]

  • Create, modify, and optimize software that will be used to test and launch Terran R
  • Gain hands on experience working with control hardware
  • Support test operations and perform related improvements to existing test stands

Past intern projects (just a few examples!)

  • Tested flight quick disconnects
  • Designed and built a Thrust Vector Controller test stand
  • Designed, built, and operated the Ox bleed disconnect test stand
  • Worked on test stand infrastructure to help run tests more often and more efficiently
  • Oversaw designing the PCB for the High Voltage Battery Management System (HVBMS)
  • Helped set up an anomaly detection framework for stargate printers
  • Printed rocket engine parts!

What you need to know:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student earning degree electrical, computer, software, aerospace, or mechanical engineering, computer science, or other related field
  • Experience with software development processes including source control, bug tracking, and design documentation
  • Experience in C/C++ and/or python
  • Basic knowledge of common instrumentation, pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTD, flow meters, accelerometers, strain gauges, load cells
  • Basic knowledge of data acquisition hardware

We believe varied perspectives & backgrounds strengthen our team. Prior experience in aerospace is not required.
