Company Overview:

We invented a new approach to design, build, and fly our own rockets, starting with Terran 1 – the world’s first entirely 3D printed rocket and Terran R our reusable next generation 3D printed rocket.

Using our vertically integrated technology platform, leveraging additive manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and autonomous robotics to deliver superiority over traditional aerospace manufacturing methods, we’re disrupting 60 years of aerospace with our novelty approach to get to space, Mars, and beyond faster, more cost-effective, and more reliable.

We believe in a future where interplanetary life fundamentally expands the possibilities for human experience. Our long-term vision is to upgrade humanity’s industrial base on Earth and on Mars.

Team:

The Propulsion team at Relativity Space is responsible for the design, development, testing, and manufacturing of Relativity’s entirely 3D printed rocket engines, Aeon-1 and Aeon-R. As a part of this team, you will help build, create, and iterate on the full product lifecycle of our Aeon engines. We collaborate closely with component engineers, our manufacturing team, our Stennis test team, and our Cape launch team to deliver engines that will successfully propel the Terran-1 and Terran-R rockets to orbit. We strive for continuous improvement and support the development of our technical hardware and human teammates alike. This team is critical to the launch success of Terran-1 and Terran-R, among many other firsts!

What you’ll do:

Our mission is to reimagine the way rockets are built and flown -- as a Propulsion Manager, you will lead the Propulsion Turbomachinery Team who are responsible for designing, manufacturing, and testing the fuel and oxidizer turbopumps for the Aeon-1 and Aeon-R engines. Your overall objective is to grow a turbomachinery team capable of handling rapid iteration and leveraging the power of 3D printing to reduce cost, weight and part count. You will work cross functionally as well as with external manufacturing partners to drive an exceptional, reliable product through completion as we reach first launch and beyond. You will grow and lead a world class team to operate across multiple projects and phases of development. A high degree of autonomy, leadership and proactiveness is required. In addition to strong technical leadership, this role involves significant mentorship and project management.

What you need to know:

In order to be successful in this role, you should be someone who thrives in ambiguity and is able to drive the team’s projects to completion. We are looking for someone multifaceted, and capable of leading a team at the interfaces of design, analysis, manufacturing, and development. Ideally, you have carried teams through difficult projects and are able to thrive in high levels of ambiguity.

More specifically, we are looking for:

  • Degree (BS) in engineering or related technical field and 5+ years of related work experience
  • Experience leading an engineering team through complex engineering projects
  • Understanding of turbomachinery design and analysis principles
  • Experience with turbomachinery integration, testing, and qualification
  • Strong project management skills through the lifecycle of a product

Nice to haves but not required:

  • A graduate degree (MS/PhD) in engineering or related technical field
  • 2+ years leading a rocket propulsion engineering team
  • Strong understanding of launch vehicle propulsion systems and components
  • Familiarity with structural, thermal, and fluid analysis techniques for propulsion systems
  • Familiarity with industry-standard turbomachinery design and analyses codes
  • Experience in a startup or agile development environment
