Redesign Health + Cedars-Sinai Digital Innovation Platform

About the Company:

Redesign Health is a global venture and applied technology firm focused on building next-generation healthcare companies. We manage venture capital and venture buyout strategies, each powered by an AI operating system and team of leading technologists, entrepreneurs, and investors.

Our venture capital strategy backs exceptional founders at the earliest stage—often before an idea is fully formed—and provides first institutional capital and an unmatched degree of strategic leverage and domain expertise through exit. Our venture buyout strategy partners with proven management teams through control investments and delivers outsized value by rewiring core products and workflows with AI.

Since inception in 2018, Redesign and our portfolio companies have touched the lives of more than 15 million patients, raised over $1.5 billion from premier institutional, sovereign, and strategic investors, and built distinctive partnerships with marquee healthcare organizations and senior leaders around the world.

Redesign is based in New York and has offices in Bengaluru, Los Angeles, and Riyadh.

About the Role:

Most healthcare investors wait for companies to come to them. This role creates them.

Redesign Health and Cedars-Sinai have launched a Digital Innovation Platform, a first-of-its-kind venture creation engine embedded inside one of the world’s premier academic medical centers. The platform combines Redesign’s healthcare company-building methodology with something no standalone venture firm can offer: Cedars-Sinai’s 4,500+ physicians and nurses, its expansive clinical network of 40+ hospitals and sites of care, a purpose-built synthetic and de-identified data platform, and a standing commitment to serve as the first customer for every company the platform creates. Ideas originate from the clinicians and researchers who see problems up close every day. The companies that emerge are validated in real clinical environments before they ever reach the broader market.

This is an unparalleled opportunity to build generational healthcare companies. You will have something almost no one in healthcare venture has: a fully committed institutional partner with world-class clinical expertise, deep data assets, and the infrastructure to pilot and validate at scale - all before a company writes its first check to a customer. The access is real. The commitment is structural, not performative.

As Managing Director, New Ventures, you will run Redesign’s side of this partnership end to end. This is a -1 to 0 role. Your job is to take clinical pain points and institutional white space and turn them into funded, founder-led operating companies. You will work inside Cedars-Sinai’s innovation infrastructure to surface high-conviction opportunities, develop original investment theses around them, attract exceptional founders, and shepherd concepts through co-ideation and diligence to Redesign’s Investment Committee.

The right person for this role has built things before: companies, investment theses, teams, or programs in healthcare. You might come from venture capital, corporate venture, health system innovation, strategy, or operations. What matters more than your last title is that you have the commercial judgment to know which problems are worth solving, the taste to identify founding talent, and the credibility to be taken seriously by clinicians, executives, and entrepreneurs in the same week. You are the kind of person who earns trust inside institutions and moves with urgency once you have it.

This position is based in Los Angeles. You get to be onsite 3–4 days per week in our Cedars-Sinai office.

What You’ll Do:

Partnership Operations & Governance

Own the day-to-day relationship between Redesign Health and Cedars-Sinai. Serve as the accountable driver of delivery against the partnership’s commitments. Prepare materials for and participate in Joint Operating Committee, Steering Committee, and Investment Committee meetings. Build deep, trust-based relationships with clinical and administrative stakeholders across the health system - department heads, researchers, operational leaders, and the Digital Innovation team so that when opportunities surface, you are the first person they call.

Thesis Development & Co-Ideation

Work inside Cedars-Sinai’s clinical ecosystem to identify the problems worth building companies around. Engage directly with clinicians, researchers, and operational leaders to understand where digital solutions can create outsized value. Translate those insights into original investment theses grounded in stakeholder willingness to pay, clinical workflow integration, and market structure. The platform’s initial focus areas include personalized medicine, specialty care access, hospital workflow optimization, clinical decision support, and care coordination, but you will shape these thematic priorities as the partnership evolves.

Founder Sourcing & Engagement

Identify and attract exceptional founders to lead the companies this platform creates. The value proposition you are selling is unlike anything else in the market: a validated clinical thesis, first institutional capital, day-one access to Cedars-Sinai’s provider network and data platform, a committed first customer, and Redesign’s full venture-building infrastructure. Your job is to present this proposition compellingly so that exceptional talent chooses this path over well-funded alternatives, and also to evaluate founder-market fit with the judgment to say no quickly when conviction is lacking.

Beyond sourcing for specific companies, build Los Angeles into a destination for healthcare entrepreneurship. Develop relationships with local universities, cultivate a community of technical and clinical talent, and position the Cedars-Sinai Digital Innovation Platform as the center of gravity for founders who want to build healthcare companies in LA. The Bay Area doesn’t have a monopoly on great founders, but someone has to make that case and back it up with infrastructure. That’s you.

Diligence & IC Delivery

Stress-test your own theses harder than anyone else will. Identify the two or three questions that truly matter for each concept and resolve them through primary conversations with clinicians, payers, and potential customers. Shepherd founders and concepts to Redesign’s Investment Committee with clarity, speed, and honest representation of risks. Concepts should arrive at IC with a clear path to Cedars-Sinai as a design partner and first customer.

Platform & Portfolio Support

Once companies are funded, serve as the primary interface between founding teams and Redesign’s platform. Help founders access Cedars-Sinai’s clinical network for piloting, implementation, and research validation. Deliver Redesign’s strategic support: domain expertise, go-to-market acceleration, fundraising positioning, and governance insight. Know when to lean in and when to step back - the founder’s success is the only thing that matters.

People Management

Lead and develop the New Ventures team assigned to the Cedars-Sinai partnership. Provide direct management for Associates and Principals. Mentor junior talent while contributing to Redesign’s broader organizational strategy and venture creation methodology.

What You’ll Need:

Background

  • 8–10+ years of experience in healthcare, with meaningful exposure to company creation, investing, or strategic innovation - whether from venture capital, corporate venture, health system innovation, strategy consulting, operations, or a combination

  • Experience working with or inside large healthcare organizations (academic medical centers, integrated delivery networks, payers, or health tech companies serving them) and an intuition for how institutions adopt new technology

  • Healthcare domain expertise with the ability to develop original investment theses across care delivery, health tech, and digital health

  • Fluency in business model analysis, primary and secondary research, investment thesis development, and financial modeling

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred

Core Competencies

  • Institutional Credibility: You earn trust with senior clinicians, health system executives, and C-suite leaders. You’ve worked inside or alongside complex organizations and know how to build internal champions, align incentives across departments, and turn institutional interest into institutional commitment.

  • Founder Instinct: A refined sense of what “great” looks like in founding talent, including the ability to recognize the exceptional in non-standard backgrounds. You can sell a vision and close a founder.

  • Commercial Judgment: You map every concept to a specific stakeholder’s willingness to pay, understand unit economics, and sense whether a business model can scale. Academic depth paired with commercial instinct.

  • Speed to Kill: The ability to say no quickly to concepts, founders, and your own ideas. Nothing lingers in an uncertain state. Time spent on mediocre opportunities is time away from exceptional ones.

Behavioral Skills

  • Relationships Over Research: You spend disproportionate time with clinicians, founders, VCs, operators, and payers. A few sharp primary conversations answer questions that weeks of secondary research cannot.

  • Radical Honesty: You surface risks early, communicate directly even when the message is unwelcome, and maintain strong opinions loosely held.

  • Partnership Orientation: You subordinate process preferences to founder needs. You are the first person every founder calls in a crisis and the person Cedars-Sinai’s team trusts to represent the partnership accurately.

  • Technology Innovator: All analytical and synthesis work — market sizing, landscaping, competitive mapping, secondary research — goes into AI systems. Your time is reserved for the irreplaceable: relationships, taste, judgment, primary conversations, and selling. You have built systems and workflows far more sophisticated than basic LLM usage and are constantly experimenting with new ways to compress months of work into weeks.

Location: This is a hybrid role requiring 3-4 days in-office in Los Angeles.
