Position Summary
The Director of FP&A will be a key member of the Finance Team and an important business partner across all aspects of the organization. This position will report directly to the Chief Accounting Officer who leads Global Finance and oversees FP&A, accounting and financial reporting. The Director of FP&A will be responsible for the global financial planning and forecasting working cross-functionally with the commercial, clinical, manufacturing, supply chain, translational research, and G&A functions. The role will focus on the analytics that support budgets, forecasting, BvA, and management of programs. The Director of FP&A will be a resource to senior management, department heads and program leads.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Responsible for leading the timely and accurate preparation of the Rakuten Medical, Inc. Consolidated Budget, Forecasts and Cash Burn on an annual and quarterly basis. Provide guidance to the international subsidiaries regarding the preparation of their Budgets.
• Lead the preparation of the Budget vs Actual financial reports that are provided quarterly to Department Heads to cost-effectively manage the active programs and the business.
• Lead the on-going monthly updates for the Cash Burn Forecast.
• Perform cash flow forecasting related to inventory build forecasting.
• Serve as a key partner to Department Heads globally to drive accurate budgets and forecasting for commercial activities, clinical trials, manufacturing and supply chain activities and translational research.
• Prepare financial analysis to support business decisions including scenario modelling and cost trade-offs.
• Implement systems or business process improvements to the financial planning and budgeting process to meet internal business needs.
• Collaborate with the Accounting team to ensure alignment between budget and actuals including reviewing the GL coding and purchase requests for alignment with the budget.
• Manage collaboration revenue and costs, including managing the budget and preparation of invoices for the collaboration.
• Responsible for ensuring Company policies relating to budgeting and reporting are consistently followed. Develop further policies as needed.
• Lead the annual renewal of the global insurance policies evaluating the related costs and risks.
• Other projects as required.
Desired Education, Skills and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or science-related field. CPA and or MBA highly preferred. Big 4 or 2nd Tier public accounting experience strongly preferred.
• 10+ years finance experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industries including 5+ years in an FP&A role. Experience working in an FP&A role as a business partner with R&D functions in a collaborative, team environment including commercial revenue and inventory, clinical operations and manufacturing and supply chain. The Company has Commercial Revenue in Japan.
• Advanced understanding of Excel and PowerPoint including preparing slides for Board meetings. Adaptive Insights experience preferred. ERP experience with Great Plains preferred, not required.
• Proven experience providing data analysis and decision support to the entire organization with a business partner mindset. Ability to communicate financial guidelines in a clear manner.
• Strategic thinker with excellent communication skills and ability to translate science and strategy to finance and numbers.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Detail oriented, solution driven with excellent written and verbal communication, analytical and presentation skills.
• Service oriented and collaboration focused with the desire to improve efficiency and effectiveness through process improvements.
• Experience in a high-growth company with international subsidiaries a plus.
• Ability to travel to international subsidiaries as/when required (travel is estimated at 10% or less in this role).
The expected salary range for this position based in California is $180,000 to $200,000 annually. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualification, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
