Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) – Federal Construction

Location: Minot, ND (onsite at a federal project site — Minot Air Force Base)

Pay Rate: $80,000–$125,000 base (based on experience), plus a 15% project-completion bonus

Overview

Our client is a 100% employee-owned general contractor with a rapidly growing federal and commercial construction practice — the kind of company where people who join tend to stay for the long haul. This is a newly created Level 1 SSHO seat on an active federal jobsite, reporting into a lean, four-person site leadership team (Superintendent, QC Manager, SSHO, and Project Engineer) rather than a layer of corporate safety bureaucracy. Whoever takes this seat will own site safety end to end, on a project where the standards are federal, the stakes are real, and the room to make an immediate impact is wide open.

Key responsibilities:

• Implement and enforce project-specific safety plans in accordance with EM 385-1-1 and OSHA standards
• Conduct daily jobsite safety inspections and submit safety reports
• Manage PPE procurement and distribution
• Lead new-hire safety orientation and weekly toolbox talks
• Review subcontractor safety documentation and submittals
• Lead incident investigation and post-accident reporting
• Maintain safety records, SDS documentation, and compliance files
• Inspect and maintain Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP)
• Develop emergency response plans and run safety drills

Software used: MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams); Bluebeam (preferred, company standard); construction management software

Compensation & Perks

• $80,000–$125,000 base salary, based on experience

Requirements

• 5+ years of cumulative safety experience within the last 10 years managing or implementing safety and health programs (Level 1 SSHO qualified)
• OSHA 30-hour certification (or equivalent general industry/construction safety training)
• 24 hours of documented competent person training within the last 3 years
• First Aid/CPR certification
• OSHA competent person qualification in at least 3 relevant areas
• Federal/DOD construction background — most projects fall under US Army Corps of Engineers requirements, and candidates must be able to meet Corps/project-level requirements even when a project is managed by a different federal or military agency
• Comfortable with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams); Bluebeam experience preferred; construction management software experience a plus
• Valid driver's license preferred
• Willing and able to work consistently onsite at a federal jobsite, including future relocation to subsequent project sites as assigned
• US citizenship required (federal contract requirement)

Nice to have:

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, HSE, Engineering, or a related field
• CHST designation
• USACE project experience
• EM 385-1-1 experience
• Safety reporting software/application experience
• OSHA 500 certification
• Competent person certifications in fall protection, trench, and/or confined space
• EPA GCP certification
• Experience with USACE reporting systems and the 3394 form

Background check and drug screening required. US citizenship required for this federal project.
