Civil Project Manager – Land Development
Location: Nashville, TN
About the Opportunity
We are partnering with an established civil engineering and land development firm in Nashville to hire an experienced Civil Project Manager – Land Development.
This is an excellent opportunity for a licensed Civil Engineer who enjoys owning projects from beginning to end rather than managing only one phase of the process. The Project Manager will lead private-sector land and site development projects from initial planning and design through entitlement, permitting, construction administration, and completion.
Projects include residential subdivisions, commercial developments, educational facilities, parks, entertainment venues, mixed-use developments, and other high-profile projects throughout the Nashville market.
What You'll Do
- Manage approximately 4–7 active land and site development projects at various stages of completion
- Maintain ownership of projects from initial design through final completion
- Lead projects through entitlement, site design, permitting, construction documentation, and construction administration
- Manage project schedules, budgets, deadlines, deliverables, and overall quality
- Serve as the primary point of contact for private-sector clients
- Coordinate with municipalities, developers, consultants, contractors, and other project stakeholders
- Lead and coordinate a team of engineers and design professionals
- Mentor and develop junior engineering staff
- Review civil engineering plans for technical accuracy, constructability, and compliance
- Provide technical oversight and QA/QC throughout the project lifecycle
- Remain involved in design and plan review, with approximately 20%–30% of the position involving technical review or hands-on engineering support
- Oversee grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, site design, and permitting activities
- Identify and resolve potential project issues before they impact budgets, schedules, or client relationships
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with existing clients
- Support account growth and future business development as appropriate
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
- Approximately 8+ years of civil engineering experience, ideally within a consulting environment
- Strong experience in private-sector land development and site development
- Demonstrated experience managing civil engineering projects, clients, budgets, schedules, and deliverables
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Tennessee PE strongly preferred; candidates who can obtain Tennessee licensure through reciprocity will also be considered
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Experience with grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, permitting, entitlement, and construction administration
- Ability to review engineering plans and remain technically involved when needed
- Experience leading, mentoring, and delegating work to engineers and design professionals
- Strong client-facing communication and relationship-management skills
- Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with Nashville or Middle Tennessee municipalities
- Residential subdivision and commercial site-development experience
- Deltek Ajera experience
Ideal Candidate
The strongest candidate will be a licensed Civil Engineer who has built their career around private land and site development, rather than primarily public infrastructure or construction management.
