Government/Public Works Construction Project Manager
The company is currently adding a Project Manager to its core team to oversee a major government renovation project in the Bronx. This is an onsite, dedicated position where the PM will have their own office at the job site and will remain focused on the project through completion, expected to take approximately 18–24 months. The position offers a salary of $120,000–$150,000, depending on experience and the complexity of projects previously managed, with additional discretionary performance-based bonuses and opportunities for advancement into a Senior Project Manager role.
Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated onsite project management and ensure the project remains on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements.
- Manage roofing, exterior construction, painting, subcontractor activities, site logistics, materials, and project coordination.
- Serve as a primary point of contact between the owner, government agency, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal project staff.
- Coordinate with government agencies and manage required documentation, paperwork, requisitions, NCRs, and other contract administration requirements.
- Review project plans, specifications, schedules, progress, and overall project performance to identify and resolve issues.
- Prepare and review project schedules and provide monthly schedule updates using Primavera.
- Manage and process change orders, vendor requirements, and subcontractor documentation.
- Review safety plans and ensure project activities comply with applicable safety requirements.
- Monitor project progress and coordinate closely with the onsite superintendent and field workforce.
- Maintain strong organization and adaptability while managing changing site logistics, including occasional night work when required by project conditions.
- Attend project meetings and provide clear, consistent communication regarding schedule, progress, issues, and next steps.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of direct Project Manager experience in construction; superintendent-only experience will not satisfy this requirement.
- Proven experience managing government or public agency construction projects is required.
- Experience working with NYC SCA, NYC DDC, NYCHA, or similar New York government agencies is highly important.
- Demonstrated experience with government construction documentation, requisitions, NCRs, contract administration, and agency paperwork.
- Experience with roofing and/or exterior construction is strongly preferred.
- Ability to review and manage construction schedules using Primavera; experience creating schedules is not required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe.
- Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, project schedules, safety plans, subcontractor coordination, and change orders.
- Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and relationship-management skills.
- Must be comfortable working primarily onsite and adapting to occasional day or night work based on project logistics.
- Must demonstrate steady career progression and consistent employment history.
- Construction degree, certifications, or additional licenses are not required; a NYC Superintendent License would be a plus.
