Director of Manufacturing

Location: Toledo, OH (Holland area)

$120,000–$150,000+ base salary + potential performance-based bonus

We are seeking an experienced Director of Manufacturing to join a growing residential building products manufacturer in the Holland, OH area.

This is a newly created leadership position designed for someone who wants more than simply maintaining day-to-day production. The Director of Manufacturing will have the opportunity to evaluate the current operation, improve processes, increase capacity, strengthen the leadership structure, and help build the manufacturing organization for its next stage of growth.

This person will have responsibility across production, maintenance, warehouse/material handling, and purchasing, while working closely with an established Production Manager and company leadership.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing leader who is equally comfortable analyzing KPIs, improving processes, developing people, and spending time on the production floor identifying opportunities for improvement.

What You'll Be Responsible For

  • Lead overall manufacturing operations across production, maintenance, warehouse/material handling, and purchasing.
  • Evaluate current manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, throughput, capacity, quality, and cost.
  • Establish and monitor manufacturing KPIs to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Improve production planning, scheduling, labor utilization, and workflow.
  • Partner closely with the Production Manager to strengthen day-to-day execution and develop the manufacturing team.
  • Identify and address production bottlenecks, equipment downtime, material constraints, and other barriers to output.
  • Improve inventory management and material flow throughout the plant.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and equipment reliability initiatives.
  • Maintain high standards for product quality and on-time delivery.
  • Develop processes that allow the operation to maintain productivity and workforce stability through seasonal changes in demand.
  • Build stronger systems, procedures, and accountability throughout the manufacturing organization.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean manufacturing principles and other process improvement methodologies.
  • Develop, coach, and cross-train team members to create greater depth within the operation.
  • Partner with company leadership on future manufacturing expansion and increased production capacity.
  • Help evaluate and support the development of new in-house manufacturing capabilities as the organization grows.

What We're Looking For

  • 8–15+ years of manufacturing experience, including 5+ years leading plant or production operations.
  • Proven experience overseeing a meaningful manufacturing operation, this is not a small-team supervisor position.
  • Strong understanding of production planning, scheduling, workforce management, inventory/material flow, maintenance coordination, quality, and manufacturing KPIs.
  • Demonstrated success improving manufacturing processes, efficiency, throughput, or capacity.
  • Experience implementing Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Strong people leadership skills with the ability to develop teams while maintaining accountability.
  • Comfortable being highly visible and hands-on within the plant rather than managing exclusively from an office.
  • Ability to balance immediate production demands with longer-term operational improvements.
  • Degree preferred but not required for candidates with strong manufacturing leadership experience.

The manufacturing leadership background is more important than the exact product. Candidates who have successfully improved processes, increased capacity, developed teams, and brought greater structure to a growing manufacturing operation are strongly encouraged to apply.
