Superintendent – Federal Construction

Rapid City, SD

Base Salary: $130,000–$150,000+ DOE

  • Housing Allowance: $3,711/month
  • Per Diem: $2,251/month

We are seeking an experienced Federal Construction Superintendent to lead a major ground-up project in Rapid City, South Dakota.

This is an opportunity to work on a high-profile project supporting the B-21 Raider program, with a well-established federal general contractor that has multiple active projects at Ellsworth AFB and a strong long-term backlog in the area.

The initial project is approximately $54M and involves construction of an Environmental Protection Structure supporting aircraft operations, including significant airfield paving, sitework, utilities, and associated infrastructure.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead day-to-day field operations from mobilization through project closeout
  • Manage subcontractors, field personnel, schedules, logistics, safety, and quality
  • Build, maintain, and update the project schedule using PrimaveraP6
  • Coordinate closely with the Project Manager, QCM, SSHO, Project Engineer, subcontractors, and USACE representatives
  • Lead subcontractor coordination, progress, safety, and project meetings
  • Manage RFIs, field changes, constructability issues, and schedule impacts
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure work meets contract drawings, specifications, and federal requirements
  • Maintain daily reports, field documentation, as-builts, and project records
  • Oversee project safety and ensure compliance with OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and site-specific requirements
  • Manage punchlist, commissioning, owner training, and project closeout activities
  • Maintain strong working relationships with USACE, subcontractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of federal construction experience, ideally as a Lead Superintendent
  • Strong USACE/Army Corps of Engineers project experience
  • Experience leading ground-up construction projects of approximately
  • $40M+Candidates with experience managing projects in the $50M–$100M+ range are strongly preferred
  • Airfield, runway, aviation, hangar, or heavy paving experience is a major plus
  • Experience managing projects from startup through commissioning and closeout
  • Strong knowledge of federal construction requirements and EM 385-1-1
  • Experience with Primavera P6 and RMS
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred
  • Strong subcontractor management, scheduling, leadership, and client-facing skills
  • Must be able to access federal/military installations and meet applicable federal project requirements

The ideal candidate is a strong field leader who knows federal construction but also knows how to work with people. We're looking for someone who can hold subcontractors accountable, solve problems, communicate effectively with government representatives, and lead a project team
