About the Role
Due to continued growth, they are seeking an Environmental Design Engineer / Project Manager to lead hydraulic design efforts on complex water resources projects throughout the New York metropolitan area.
Responsibilities
- The Environmental Design Engineer / Project Manager will serve as the technical lead on water resources projects, supporting hydraulic design, project execution, and client coordination from project initiation through completion.
- Lead hydraulic design calculations and prepare engineering design deliverables for water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects.
- Develop, analyze, and interpret hydraulic and hydrologic models using software such as InfoWater, SWMM, PCSWMM, and HEC-RAS.
- Serve as the lead engineer on complex infrastructure projects, ensuring designs meet project objectives, regulatory requirements, schedules, and budgets.
- Coordinate with municipal clients, utilities, regulatory agencies, and internal engineering teams throughout project execution.
- Manage project scope, schedules, resource planning, budgets, and billing coordination for assigned projects (Project Manager level).
- Support technical design efforts while receiving mentorship on client management responsibilities (Project Engineer level).
- Perform occasional field visits to collect project data, verify existing conditions, and support engineering documentation using mobile technology.
- Prepare engineering reports, design calculations, technical memorandums, and construction support documentation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions.
- Maintain compliance with applicable environmental regulations, permitting requirements, and engineering standards throughout project execution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 3–5 years of experience for the Design Engineer track or 8+ years for the Project Manager track within water resources, water/wastewater, or civil infrastructure engineering.
Required Skills
- Strong proficiency with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software including InfoWater, SWMM/PCSWMM, and HEC-RAS.
- Experience designing water, wastewater, stormwater, or hydraulic infrastructure projects.
- Working knowledge of environmental regulations, waterfront/coastal requirements, and permitting processes involving state and federal agencies.
- Experience using GIS, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and related engineering design software; familiarity with OpenFlows/Bentley products is a plus.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required for Project Manager candidates; Design Engineer candidates should be eligible to obtain licensure within 12 months.
- Must reside within the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area and be comfortable with a hybrid work schedule and occasional local travel to project sites.
