Assistant Project Manager – Commercial Construction
Location: Reston, VA (Onsite)
Job Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $80,000 – $100,000/year + Holiday Bonus
Additional Pay: $300/month tax-free car allowance
Benefits: Generous benefits package, PTO, 401(k) with 4% match
Our client, a commercial construction company in Reston, VA, is looking for an Assistant Project Manager (APM) who already understands how a commercial project runs and can step in as the Project Manager's right hand from day one. This role is primarily office-based, with regular visits to local job sites to stay connected to progress in the field.
What You'll Do
- Generate and track RFIs
- Manage submittals from subcontractors through approval
- Maintain all project documentation, assist with contract administration
- Track material lead times
- Help ensure all paperwork is current and complete
- Maintain project files from kickoff through closeout
- Support project financial tracking and job costing
- Visit jobsites 1–2 times per week (approximately 80–90% office / 10–20% field)
- Coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and field superintendents
- Attend OAC meetings and internal project meetings
- Follow up on action items and help keep the project team accountable
- Help identify and resolve issues before they impact schedule
- Use Procore and Microsoft Office, Bluebeam (preferred)
Depending on project size and workload, APMs may be dedicated to one large project or support 2–3 smaller projects simultaneously.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as APM in commercial construction (ground-up or remodel projects)
- Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required
- Procore experience REQUIRED
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate effectively with a wide range of project stakeholders
