Superintendent – Heavy Civil & Underground Utilities | 100% On-site (Local travel only)
**Projects are located throughout Massachusetts, typically within a 50–100 mile radius, including Boston, the North Shore, South Shore, and Cape Cod. Superintendents report directly to the jobsite or trailer rather than a corporate office. No overnight travel is required.**
Our client is a premier heavy civil contractor specializing in municipal underground utility, water, sewer, roadway, and public infrastructure projects throughout Massachusetts. They are seeking an experienced Superintendent to lead complex, self-performed projects ranging from $10M–$30M.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on construction leader who enjoys operating in a fast-paced environment and staying several steps ahead of the field. The ideal candidate has a proven background in underground utility construction, leading crews, and coordinating with engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
What You'll Do
- Manage assigned projects, crews, foremen, and subcontractors.
- Oversee approximately 2–3 field crews and maintain productivity across multiple jobs.
- Forecast manpower needs and develop look-ahead schedules.
- Coordinate utility conflicts, permits, materials, and subcontractors.
- Partner with engineers and inspectors to ensure quality and compliance.
- Maintain project documentation, redlines, and reporting requirements.
- Track completed work and understand municipal contract quantities and payment structures.
- Attend weekly project meetings and provide project updates.
- Spend approximately 75% of your time in the field and 25% handling administrative responsibilities.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of Superintendent experience in heavy civil or municipal underground construction.
- Experience with water, sewer, roadway, and underground utility projects.
- Experience working for self-performing contractors.
- Strong leadership and crew management skills.
- Experience with municipal/public hard-bid projects.
- Knowledge of field layout, scheduling, permitting, and utility coordination.
- Familiarity with Procore, Trimble, B2W Track, and Microsoft Office is beneficial.
- No degree required.
- Pass a drug, alcohol and background check
- Valid Drivers license and Clean driving record
