Project Manager (Heavy Civil / Paving)
Our client is a well-established, privately held heavy civil construction and pavement management company with more than 30 years of experience delivering commercial and municipal infrastructure projects throughout the Southeast. As a DOT-certified general contractor, the organization specializes in roadway paving, milling, asphalt repair, concrete restoration, sealcoating, line striping, site development, and pavement preservation services. Key Responsibilities
- Manage municipal, DOT, and commercial paving projects from pre-construction through closeout, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
- Develop project schedules and coordinate labor, equipment, subcontractors, and materials to support efficient project execution.
- Monitor project budgets, job costs, change orders, and field directives while maintaining financial accountability throughout each project.
- Oversee roadway paving, milling, asphalt, site work, and commercial parking lot projects while coordinating field operations with superintendents and crews.
- Coordinate Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) planning and implementation in accordance with project specifications and safety requirements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining proactive communication regarding project progress, schedules, and overall customer satisfaction.
- Prepare and maintain all project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, shop drawing reviews, daily photo logs, weekly progress reports, and project closeout documentation.
- Review and approve invoices, project costs, and vendor expenditures associated with assigned projects.
- Attend pre-construction, progress, and closeout meetings while collaborating with clients, subcontractors, and internal leadership teams.
- Provide leadership and direction to field superintendents, ensuring work is completed in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Participate in daily safety meetings and reinforce OSHA regulations and company safety initiatives across all active job sites.
- Ensure compliance with customer-specific documentation, reporting, and operational standards for municipal agencies and national commercial accounts.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of departmental procedures, workflows, and standard operating practices as the heavy civil division continues to grow.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Proven experience managing heavy civil paving projects, including asphalt paving, milling, roadway construction, parking lots, and commercial site work.
- Demonstrated Project Manager experience with full ownership of projects from planning through completion; superintendent or foreman experience alone will not be sufficient.
- Strong understanding of project scheduling, budgeting, cost control, change order management, and construction documentation.
- Ability to effectively lead field personnel, coordinate subcontractors, and communicate confidently with superintendents, clients, and executive leadership.
- Experience working on municipal, DOT, or commercial paving projects is highly preferred.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to manage multiple active projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated professional capable of working independently while maintaining a high level of accountability and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in a direct, results-oriented culture where ownership, accountability, and initiative are highly valued.
- Experience using HeavyJob (HCSS), Vista by Viewpoint, or similar construction management and ERP software is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required. Candidates with extensive field experience and proven project management success will be strongly considered.
