Position Overview
Our client is seeking a hands-on, technically proficient Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead and manage the full operational spectrum of our high-end residential home automation and AV integration business. This is not a traditional COO role; it requires an operator who will oversee and actively participate in field operations, project execution, team management, and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all installers and technicians have full schedules of billable work, optimizing workforce utilization to maximize revenue.
- Oversee project timelines, quality, and execution, ensuring successful and profitable job completion.
- Manage and recruit installation staff while providing leadership to a small, skilled team.
- Be technically hands-on—troubleshoot AV systems, Control4, Cisco, Lutron, and networking issues as needed.
- Drive operational efficiency, labor productivity, and company profitability through smart scheduling, resource planning, and process improvements.
- Quickly resolve operational or technical issues in the field to maintain smooth project flow.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in residential AV, home automation, or low voltage systems.
- 4+ years of management experience overseeing small teams (3–10 people).
- Deep hands-on knowledge of Control4, Cisco networking, Lutron, and related technologies.
- Strong operational leadership skills, including workforce planning and technical troubleshooting.
- Experience owning scheduling, installation management, and day-to-day team output.
- Ability to work both in the field and from the office, balancing leadership with technical execution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Coding experience or tech-forward workflow familiarity (including iPad or mobile software use).
- Entrepreneurial or previous business ownership background.
