Civil Project Engineer – Plan Check

San Dimas, CA - Onsite (light hybrid + flex schedule)

A growing civil engineering and land surveying firm is looking to add a Civil Project Engineer focused specifically on plan check coordination and permitting support for commercial site development projects. This is a highly specialized role supporting a busy engineering team across multiple states and jurisdictions. The right person enjoys navigating municipal corrections, staying organized across multiple active projects, and helping move projects efficiently through the permitting process.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Act as the primary point of contact for all city and municipal plan check corrections across active projects
  • Review correction letters and prepare organized written responses for jurisdictions and municipalities
  • Coordinate directly with city planners, reviewers, and engineers to resolve outstanding comments and permit issues
  • Track correction statuses across a large portfolio of commercial site development projects
  • Support projects involving QSRs, retail, and commercial developments across multiple states
  • Work closely with internal engineering and drafting teams to keep projects moving toward approval
  • Assist with limited design and drafting work using Civil 3D and AutoCAD
  • Help reduce the permitting workload currently impacting the core design team

What They’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in civil engineering focused on site development
  • Strong experience handling city plan check corrections and permitting processes
  • Experience working with multiple municipalities and jurisdictions
  • Background in commercial site development, ideally retail or QSR projects
  • Proficiency with Civil 3D and AutoCAD
  • Strong written communication and organizational skills
  • Someone comfortable in a specialized coordination-focused role long term
  • Ability to adapt quickly to varying city requirements and changing correction requests

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with NPDES, LID, stormwater, or water quality requirements
  • Multi-state permitting experience
  • California jurisdiction experience

  • Candidates with only public works experience
  • Frequent job hopping

Compensation & Benefits

  • Approx. $40–45/hr for candidates around 5 years of experience, with flexibility for stronger backgrounds (OT offered)
