About the Role

The Construction Accountant/Job Costing Accountant is responsible for validating and reconciling all project costs prior to billing and closeout. This role partners closely with field operations, project management/sales, vendors, and accounting to ensure all labor, materials, equipment, trucking, subcontractor, and vendor costs are properly documented and captured. This is a high-visibility role ideal for someone with construction job costing, project accounting, or construction operations experience who enjoys both detailed analysis and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Review and validate all job cost “actuals” entered into ERP
  • Track project activity and field updates in real time
  • Vendor invoices
  • Delivery tickets and weight slips
  • Payroll reports and field timecards
  • Equipment logs and rental agreements
  • Subcontractor invoices and agreements
  • Verify labor hours including regular and overtime
  • Review material, trucking, hauling, disposal, equipment, and subcontractor costs
  • Identify missing costs, discrepancies, and cost misallocations
  • Coordinate with field supervisors, project managers, vendors, subcontractors, and accounting teams
  • Ensure all committed and incurred costs are captured before project closeout
  • Validate job costing aligns with contract scope and approved change orders
  • Release completed jobs for final project review and invoicing
  • Support ongoing process improvements related to job costing accuracy and reporting

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • Equivalent construction industry experience considered
  • 2+ years of experience in construction job costing/accounting
  • Understanding of construction cost categories including labor, materials, equipment, trucking, and subcontractors
  • Experience with construction ERP/job costing systems preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to reconcile construction documentation including invoices, tickets, payroll records, and change orders
  • Strong communication and cross-functional coordination skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, PIVOT, ETC)

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with construction ERP/job costing systems preferred

Pay range and compensation package

Pay Rate: $80,000/yr+ (negotiable) + bonus potential + full benefits
