Position Overview

The Director of Fleet & Safety owns the daily operation, maintenance, safety, and compliance of a diverse passenger transportation fleet that includes luxury sedans, SUVs, sprinters, buses, and motor coaches. This role ensures vehicle reliability, regulatory compliance, brand presentation, and operational readiness while driving a strong safety culture and continuous improvement across the organization.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on fleet leadership experience in passenger transportation, strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA requirements, and the ability to independently manage telematics, maintenance programs, and vendor relationships in a fast-growing, high-accountability environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily fleet operations, preventive maintenance, inspections, and lifecycle planning
  • Manage vendor/garage relationships and ensure timely, cost-effective repairs
  • Lead fleet safety program and ensure DOT/FMCSA compliance
  • Oversee driver qualification files, incident investigations, and corrective actions
  • Own telematics platforms (Samsara/Fleetio) and KPI reporting
  • Track downtime, cost per mile, utilization, and safety metrics
  • Partner with operations on scheduling, readiness, and dispatch coordination
  • Support budgeting, cost control, and long-term fleet planning

Requirements

  • 5+ years fleet leadership in passenger transportation (buses, vans, motor coaches)
  • Strong DOT/FMCSA compliance knowledge
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and vendor management
  • Telematics/data experience (Samsara, Fleetio or similar)
  • CDL with Passenger Endorsement & Airbrakes required
  • Hands-on, solutions-driven leadership style

  • Mechanical background
  • Motor coach experience
  • Experience scaling fleets during growth

Schedule & Environment

  • On-site role, 40–45 hours/week; very limited/occasional weekend support
