Senior HR Generalist (Team of One) – Full-Time, Onsite

About the Role:

Our client, a growing maintenance and construction company based in Phoenix, AZ, is seeking a hands-on Senior HR Generalist to lead and manage all aspects of human resources as a team of one. This individual will serve as a trusted advisor to both leadership and employees, ensuring smooth HR operations and compliance across the organization.

This is an excellent opportunity for a mid-career HR professional ready to take full ownership of the HR function and help shape workforce strategy in a dynamic, essential industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead full-cycle recruiting, interviewing, and hiring efforts
  • Oversee onboarding and employee training programs
  • Manage payroll processing, benefits administration, and employee leave tracking
  • Support managers in employee relations, coaching, and disciplinary actions
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state (AZ & CA), and local employment laws
  • Collaborate with leadership on talent strategy, retention initiatives, and succession planning
  • Handle sensitive HR issues with discretion and professionalism
  • Maintain accurate HR records and ensure smooth daily HR operations

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hands-on HR experience
  • Strong working knowledge of Arizona and California employment laws
  • Proven experience managing payroll, benefits, and compliance
  • Self-motivated, organized, and eager to grow in a multi-state HR role
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Zenefits or similar HR systems
