Senior Mechanical Estimator – Commercial & Industrial Projects

A well-established mechanical insulation contractor with decades of experience in the commercial and industrial sector is seeking a Senior Mechanical Estimator to join their growing team. Known for safety, quality, and long-standing relationships, this firm supports mechanical contractors, facility owners, and government agencies across the DMV region. Their portfolio spans hospitals, schools, government facilities, data centers, and large commercial projects.

Position Overview

This is a lead estimator role responsible for preparing detailed cost proposals, managing customer relationships, and collaborating with both in-house and offshore support teams. The right candidate will be able to hit the ground running, managing 30–40 bids per month, reviewing designs and specifications, and working directly with customers on pricing decisions, negotiations, and change orders.

You’ll report directly to company leadership, act as a key resource for pricing strategy, and contribute to business growth by bringing technical expertise and strong market knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit accurate cost estimates and competitive bids for mechanical insulation projects.
• Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine scope and risk factors.
• Conduct labor and material takeoffs using digital tools (MIKE software and other estimating systems).
• Manage change orders, labor/material costs, and negotiate directly with customers.
• Lead bid strategy sessions, value engineering, and proposal development under tight deadlines.
• Support project lifecycle activities including handoffs, planning, and coordination with field teams.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships with mechanical contractors and general contractors throughout all phases of the project.
• Provide professional insight to senior leadership on pricing, bids, and project decisions.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of estimating experience, with at least 2–3 years focused on mechanical projects (insulation, piping, ductwork, HVAC, or plumbing).
• Experience with commercial, industrial, or healthcare projects (hospitals, data centers, schools, government facilities).
• Strong background in takeoffs, change orders, and customer negotiations.
• Prior project management experience (scheduling, contracts, or client interfacing) preferred.
• Established customer relationships or network within the DMV market highly valued.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary: $100K – $120K, plus performance bonus.
