About us

PhysicsX is a deep-tech company with roots in numerical physics and Formula One, dedicated to accelerating hardware innovation at the speed of software.
We are building an AI-driven simulation software stack for engineering and manufacturing across advanced industries. By enabling high-fidelity, multi-physics simulation through AI inference across the entire engineering lifecycle, PhysicsX unlocks new levels of optimization and automation in design, manufacturing, and operations — empowering engineers to push the boundaries of possibility. Our customers include leading innovators in Aerospace & Defense, Materials, Energy, Semiconductors, and Automotive.

Please note that we are unable to offer Visa sponsorship for internship positions. Applicants must have the existing right to work in the UK (for example, through citizenship, settled/pre-settled status, or a valid student visa permitting full-time work during the internship period). We’re unable to consider applications from candidates who cannot meet these requirements.

Position overview

As a Simulation Engineer Intern, you will join us over summer 2026 to develop automated CFD simulation workflows and generate high-fidelity datasets for ML applications across aerodynamics, heat transfer, electromagnetics and chemistry applications. This exciting opportunity will allow you to gain hands-on experience with industry-leading CAE software building end-to-end automation pipelines for CFD applications while contributing to real-world engineering projects. You'll work alongside experienced engineers to solve complex industrial problems across various industries. Join us in this dynamic role, where your insights and contributions will help shape innovative engineering solutions and advance your career in computational engineering!

What You Will Do

  • Develop parametric CAD models and geometry generation workflows for complex layouts
  • Build automated CFD pipelines implementing data sampling methods to generate high-fidelity datasets spanning to support ML surrogate model development
  • Configure and manage large-scale simulation datasets on cloud HPC infrastructure, including batch job submission, and monitoring workflows for parallel simulations
  • Implement automated post-processing routines to extract key metrics.
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers to understand data quality requirements, and participate in model validation workflows
  • Develop technical documentation and prepare detailed technical reports and presentations communicating findings, methodologies, and recommendations
  • Project topics will be discussed during the interview process and selected based on each candidate’s skills and interests. Topics may include vehicle aerodynamics, electrolyser modelling, battery electrode simulations, electromagnetic simulations, open-source CFD tool development, MLIPs for biochemistry, FSI modelling, Implicit CAD Modelling and more.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a PhD (or final year Masters) degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Physics
  • Coursework or demonstrated knowledge in fluid mechanics, heat transfer and chemistry
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work independently on technical challenges and excellent communication skills
  • Familiarity with CFD software Star-CCM+, ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL or OpenFOAM
  • Familiarity with parametric CAD design on NX, CATIA or FreeCAD and geometry clean-up
  • Familiarity with HPC environments, job scheduling systems, and Unix/Linux operating systems
  • Familiarity with AI-driven modelling techniques and common Python libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, MLFlow)

What We Offer

  • Duration: 3 months (Summer 2026)
  • Location: On-site (London, UK)
  • Work with a fun group of colleagues that support you, challenge you and help you grow. We come from many different backgrounds, but we all have a common desire to operate at the very top of our fields and solve truly challenging problems. If you are similarly capable, ambitious and driven, you'll find yourself at home here.
  • This is a paid opportunity, details on compensation will be shared as part of the latter stages of the interview process.

Our roles are hybrid, and we work from our London office at least 4 days per week. This structure is designed to provide meaningful exposure to our teams and projects while maintaining flexibility.

This is a paid opportunity, details on compensation will be shared as part of the latter stages of the interview process.
