Sales Operations Engineer
Sales & Business Development, Operations
San Francisco, CA, USA
At Orchard, we’re securing America’s food supply by building the AI Farmer that automates our nation’s farms. We are the industry leader, growing rapidly, and backed by more than $25 million from leading investors, including Quiet Capital, Shine Capital, and General Catalyst.
Every year, hundreds of billions of dollars in crop value are lost because critical farming decisions are made using incomplete and imprecise data. We’re building the technology to change that.
Our AI-powered camera systems mount to tractors and scan millions of trees, vines, and plants, capturing precise data on yield estimates, fruit size, crop health, disease, and more. We train edge vision AI models that analyze every plant and determine exactly what interventions and treatments it needs. That intelligence flows into FruitScope OS, our farm-management platform, where growers can understand their crops, make better decisions, and direct operations in the field.
Today, Orchard’s technology is trusted by some of our nation’s largest farms. They use our products to grow higher-quality crops while reducing chemical use and operating costs, helping them farm more profitably and sustainably than ever before.
Our Culture:
Unshakeable Resilience – Our customers feed millions of people, and our customers depend on us. We are ultra-hardworking, never give up, and we do whatever it takes.
Always Keep Moving – We move fast, waste no time, and have an extreme bias towards action. Progress compounds every day, and our impact is measured in decades.
Improve Everything – At 1% success, we save millions of pounds of food from going to waste. If we are 100% successful we will impact the lives of billions of people across the world.
Farmers First – Every team member spends at least a few days in the fields with our farmers each month.
No Job Beneath Us – We’re low ego, own every outcome, and are all working towards the same goal.
The Role
Orchard’s sales organization is scaling rapidly across crops, customer segments, and new geographies. As Orchard’s first Sales Operations Engineer, you will build the operating system that makes every seller on our team more effective, helping ensure their time is spent mainly on selling.
This is a hybrid operations and engineering role. You will take ownership of the non-selling work that currently sits across our VP of Sales and Sales team, personally doing whatever is necessary to help opportunities move forward. At the same time, you will build the internal applications, AI automations, integrations, and processes that allow this support to scale as our sales organization grows.
At first, the role will be operations-heavy. You might research target accounts, prepare materials for an important customer meeting, clean up CRM data, coordinate a proposal, or make sure everything arrives at a trade show on time. By doing the work yourself, you will learn where our sellers spend time and where the current (manual) systems may break down. Then, you will engineer that work away.
This is not a traditional Sales Operations analyst role, and it is not a pure software-engineering position removed from the day-to-day work of selling. We are looking for someone who enjoys both sides: doing the detailed work required today and building the systems for tomorrow.
What You’ll Own
Take work off our sellers’ plates: Own the recurring non-selling work that currently slows down our AEs, including account research, CRM administration, proposals, internal coordination, and sales event logistics.
Build internal sales tools: Develop applications, AI-powered workflows, integrations, and automations that help our sellers advance opportunities.
Turn manual work into scalable systems: Execute operational work yourself until you understand it deeply, then standardize and automate it.
Build Orchard’s sales operating system: Design and improve our sales processes, playbooks, and workflows, while owning seller-facing CRM architecture, workflows, and integrations.
Help complex deals move forward: Coordinate the customer materials, technical resources, and cross-functional work required across Sales, Engineering, Operations, Customer Success, and leadership.
Own trade shows and sales programs: Plan and execute conferences, field days, customer events, and other sales programs, including logistics, staffing, materials, and follow-up.
Help us enter new markets: Turn what works into repeatable systems that support new crops, customer segments, countries, and new sales hires.
What We Look For
3+ years in a high-ownership role spanning GTM engineering, sales operations, revenue operations, internal tools, software engineering, or startup operations.
You know how to code and are fluent at using AI coding tools. You have the technical ability to independently build useful internal applications, integrations, and automations.
An understanding of B2B or enterprise sales and what sellers need. You can observe how sellers work, identify the most important bottlenecks, build practical solutions, and iterate based on real usage.
A track record of using software, AI, or automation to eliminate repetitive work and make a customer-facing team meaningfully more productive.
A willingness to do work manually before automating it. You are equally comfortable building an internal tool, fixing CRM records, preparing customer materials, or packing equipment for a trade show.
Strong written communication and the ability to turn fragmented knowledge into clear processes, playbooks, training, and technical requirements.
Low ego, good judgment about process, and you take ownership without waiting to be directed.
About the Opportunity
Full-time role, five days a week, in-person at our San Francisco office.
Medical, dental, and vision coverage with 100% of employee premiums covered.
The opportunity to build the critical function of Sales Operations from the ground up.
Our team is close-knit and highly driven. You’ll work closely with our CEO, VP Sales, and whole Sales Team.
We move fast, and sometimes this means staying late or working weekends.
We’re deeply motivated by the impact we’re making – every system we sell and deploy means less food that goes to waste, and more people who are fed.
