Position Description
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accession Officer to oversee sample accessioning activities and ensure the smooth functioning of laboratory operations. In this role, you will be responsible for managing patient sample registration, ensuring compliance with quality standards, resolving operational issues, and supporting the team in maintaining efficient workflows. The ideal candidate should have strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Receive, verify, and accurately register patient samples while ensuring compliance with established protocols.
Ensure proper labeling, handling, storage, and tracking of all patient samples throughout the accessioning process.
Monitor daily accessioning workflows and coordinate with laboratory teams to ensure timely sample processing.
Review and validate sample documentation to identify and resolve discrepancies or incomplete information.
Maintain accurate records and ensure timely updates in laboratory information systems (LIS).
Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality standards, and laboratory safety protocols.
Support investigations and documentation related to sample errors, deviations, or quality concerns.
Coordinate with collection, logistics, processing, and reporting teams to ensure seamless laboratory operations.
Assist in inventory management and ensure the availability of accessioning materials and laboratory consumables.
Train, guide, and support junior Accession Officers on processes, documentation, and quality requirements.
Monitor process performance and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency and service quality.
Ensure compliance with internal quality standards, accreditation requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
Required Skills
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT/BMLT) or a related life sciences discipline.
3–5 years of experience in healthcare, laboratory operations, sample accessioning, or diagnostic laboratory environments.
Strong knowledge of laboratory accessioning workflows, sample handling, and documentation practices.
Experience working with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) or similar healthcare software is preferred.
Excellent attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple teams.
Experience in mentoring or guiding junior team members is preferred.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and perform efficiently under pressure.
Willingness to work rotational shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
