We are currently looking for a Product Development Scientist II for our NotCo B2B Research & Development located in San Francisco, California requiring active on-site presence. This position will report to our Lead Sr. R&D Scientist II ; however, the incumbent will work cross-functionally to ensure R&D activities are successfully deployed within global cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
- Plays an active role in multiple, cross-category product development activities ensuring that products deliver against the aligned upon product brief (i.e. sensory attributes, regulatory, nutritional and quality requirements, timing, and cost) including but not limited to process development, scale-up and technology transfer.
- Participates in full product lifecycle, from product concept to successful commercial launch as directed by the manager, including the use of sensory and analytical analysis to support the development process.
- Utilize proprietary NotCo AI technology to develop and improve food products.
- Proactively supports R&D and Machine Learning teams in activities related to product development and technology improvement projects.
- Independently scouts and works with suppliers for novel, functional ingredients and exploration of new technologies.
- Proactively provides technical and project risk assessment clearly articulating perspectives and trade-offs related to new product development and strategic R&D project goals.
- Applies scientific and experimental design principles to solve technical problems and create robust designs.
- Communicates proactively and effectively with cross-functional teams and other relevant internal/external stakeholders.
- Maintains detailed documentation and record keeping procedures in a timely manner.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Engineering, Food Science, Engineering in Biotechnology or a similar discipline.
- > 4 years of R&D experience is required, preferably across both food and beverage categories.
- Be agile, adapt easily to changing priorities, and thrive in a dynamic and changing culture works relentlessly to overachieve, anticipate obstacles, and creates plans to overcome them.
- Demonstrated competency to effectively influence cross-functionally with solid communication (oral & written) and collaboration skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results while overcoming obstacles.
- Excel in a startup environment is excited to create new procedures and processes from scratch and has a strong entrepreneurial mindset.
- Be a problem solver, have a general manager mindset, and take the initiative to get the job done.
- Possess strong planning, project management, and execution skills, and the ability to articulate where and how you have used them.
- Rigorous data-driven/analytical capability and ability and presence to present data effectively to a leadership team.
- Work well in teams and cross-functional groups in a matrixed environment both regionally and globally.
- Possess strong computer skills including a high level of proficiency in MS Office, specifically Excel.
- Ability to travel at least 20% of the time.
