Be part of the transformation!We are looking for a Machine Learning Engineering Manager for San Francisco Office.As an ML Engineering Manager in the NotCo AI group, you will work with a multifaceted team of ML & Software Engineers, UI/UX Designers, Experimental Chefs, and Food Scientists to revolutionize the way plant-based and sustainable foods are created. Your main responsibilities would be to lead a group of Machine Learning Engineers to deliver on the Giuseppe Platform - our internal Machine Learning system that assists in product formulation for novel plant-based foods. Our tech platform utilizes predictive & generative models, optimization algorithms, as well as in-house data warehousing infrastructure that allows us to relate nutritional, physicochemical & molecular data to find new discoveries for novel plant-based products.Words from the Hiring Manager:This role is critical to the success of NotCo AI – it involves leading a highly talented technical team (Stanford, Harvard, PUC Chile) machine learning engineers who work very closely with scientists and formulators. The ML Manager will be exposed to several novel technologies ranging from generative models to real-time predictive models & optimizations. We’re looking for someone who has the curiosity and tenacity to manage an ambitious team with ambitious goals. Furthermore, a qualified candidate should also be able to effectively mentor and guide younger engineers into the careers they want to develop at NotCo.Future of this role: This role will start primarily as a technical role, but will quickly grow into a strategic role. At NotCo, we are constantly testing in which ways AI/ML can rapidly transform R&D and fundamental sciences, and the ML Manager will play a key part in proposing new ideas & methods that unlock new capabilities for NotCo. The ML Manager will present these proposals and subsequent project updates to both internal and external stakeholders including the C-Level, investors, and partner companies. Responsabilities
  • Lead the core Machine Learning group in San Francisco which is responsible for researching, proposing, and implementing new models and algorithms into our ML Platform
  • Work closely with Product Management and tangential groups, such as our Experimental Chef and Food Science groups to organize and execute on multidisciplinary projects
  • Workshop new research ideas into actionable proposals and engineering roadmaps
  • Strategize technology externalization strategy for the existing tech platform with the management team Mentor direct reports to develop long term career roadmaps
  • Direct hiring for new open positions within the group
  • Foster a transparent and open culture of innovation and knowledge sharing

REQUIREMENTS
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field with a focus on machine learning
  • 6+ years of experience in an IC role with hands-on Machine Learning experience
  • 2-3+ years of Engineering Management or Tech Lead experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of optimizers (blackbox optimizer, gradient-based/gradient descent, Bayesian Optimization) packages
  • Strong background in software engineering, unit & functional testing (Python, unittest, nose) and a focus on best practices
  • Prior experience with implementing & training Deep Learning models (Pytorch, TensorFlow); prior experience with training models on cloud infrastructure on GPU/TPU preferred
  • Familiarity with model packaging & deployment (Docker, Kubernetes, Google Cloud Platform)
  • In-depth knowledge in one or several of the following areas preferred: Representational Learning, Generative Models, Transformers, bandit algorithms & convex optimizers
