About the role:

We’re looking for an experienced Transportation Underwriter who can contribute independently as well as work effectively with a team that’s growing a modern commercial insurance product from the ground up! Instead of time-consuming data entry and manual calculations, we want our underwriters focused on developing strong relationships and making key decisions. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to both leverage their experience in the underwriting space and stretch themselves to find creative solutions to novel and complex problems.

What you’ll do:

• Evaluate and price new and renewal commercial Transportation business using underwriting best practices coupled with modern tools and insights
• Work closely with key agency partners to achieve production and profitability goals
• Be a foundational driver of results for an emerging insurance product
• Collaborate with the Product and Engineering groups on emerging segments and territories as we scale

About you:

• 5+ years of property/casualty underwriting experience in the Transportation space.
• Proven track record of growing and maintaining a book of profitable transportation business
• Insurance certification (CPCU, ARM, etc.) a plus
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to present to both small and large groups of customers and brokers.
• Thorough critical thinker who isn’t afraid to make decisions
• Self-starter who independently seeks out opportunities to learn and succeed
• Bias-to-action - you’re not afraid to get your hands dirty and stretch yourself
• Owner mentality - take accountability for your actions and results
• Successfully able to work in high-growth and ambiguous start-up environments
