Who we are:

Nirvana is on a mission to harness the power of data to revolutionize commercial insurance and enable a safer world. We are bringing much-needed innovation into the legacy, trillion-dollar commercial insurance industry. We have developed cutting-edge predictive models that use real-time IoT data from billions of connected devices, allowing us to better understand and price risk. Our AI-driven platform fundamentally changes the way an insurance company operates with personalized risk scoring, faster underwriting, modernized claims, and proactive, data-driven insights to help customers prevent accidents.

We’ve already proven the scale—reaching well over $100 million in premiums and more than doubling year over year. Our data moat is growing exponentially with more than 20 billion miles of telematics data, leading to more predictive models and new insights into how we can better understand and reduce risk. Altogether, our loss ratio, efficiency, and customer experience are redefining what can be done in the industry.

With $170+ million raised, including an industry-leading Series C round in January 2025, we’re only accelerating our growth, with strong support from top-tier VCs including Lightspeed, General Catalyst, and Valor. Nirvana’s leadership team has previously helped scale multi-billion-dollar companies from scratch, including Samsara, Rubrik, and Flexport, and includes industry veterans from Hiscox, The Hartford, and RLI.

About the role:

As we scale, we’re adding a Claims Adjuster (AI Data Collection) who will do more than settle losses. In this role, you will play a critical role in driving Nirvana’s AI‑powered claims program. You’ll handle first‑party and third‑party commercial auto claims (including cargo), and partner with our product, engineering and data science teams to structure and annotate claim data so our algorithms learn faster and deliver sharper, faster outcomes.

We’re a distributed team spread across the US and India, with offices in San Francisco, CA & Columbus, OH. For this role we’re open to candidates in the southern, midwest, and northeast regions of the United States.

What you’ll do:

  • Analyze coverage based on the facts of the loss and policy language, tagging key data elements for model training

  • Make informed liability decisions, weighing comparative negligence, and documenting reasoning in a structured format

  • Collaborate with claims, product, engineering and data teams on adjustment plan, severity tagging, reserve methodology, and claim best practices

  • Study and assess demands, settlements (first‑ and third‑party claimants as well as attorneys) and capture outcome data in structured formats for system training and model development

  • Leverage data from past claims and settlements to detect trends and surface insights to improve AI algorithms

  • Work on special projects to assist AI‑powered claims adjusting - whether auditing TPA files, piloting new annotation guides, or beta‑testing internal tooling

  • Gather and organize data efficiently using Excel and/or Google Sheets. Systematically manage diverse claims datasets with exceptional proficiency. This includes data entry, categorization, validation, and annotation.

About you:

  • 7+ years of experience in commercial auto claim adjudication, with at least 5 years handling injury severity losses

  • At least 2 years of commercial carrier claims experience

  • Has experience handling claims up to $500k FDV

  • Active adjusters license in home or designated home state

  • Consistently exceeds targets including, but not limited to, cycle time and recovery rates

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • College degree or minimum of 10-years of claims experience
