Multiverse is the upskilling platform for AI and Tech adoption.

We have partnered with 1,500+ companies to deliver a new kind of learning that's transforming today’s workforce.

Our upskilling apprenticeships are designed for people of any age and career stage to build critical AI, data, and tech skills. Our learners have driven $2bn+ ROI for their employers, using the skills they’ve learned to improve productivity and measurable performance.

In June 2022, we announced a $220 million Series D funding round co-led by StepStone Group, Lightspeed Venture Partners and General Catalyst. With a post-money valuation of $1.7bn, the round makes us the UK’s first EdTech unicorn.

But we aren’t stopping there. With a strong operational footprint and 800+ employees, we have ambitious plans to continue scaling. We’re building a world where tech skills unlock people’s potential and output.

Join Multiverse and power our mission to equip the workforce to win in the AI era.

The Role: Your Impact

Reporting directly to the General Counsel (GC), you will serve as the GC's strategic partner and right hand, holding the title of Legal Director. This is a pivotal leadership role, instrumental in executing the GC's legal strategy, overseeing core legal operations, and managing a high-performing legal team.

This role requires a versatile legal leader who thrives on variety - someone equally comfortable negotiating a multi-million pound commercial deal on Monday, managing M&A due diligence on Tuesday, and coaching junior lawyers on Wednesday. You'll need to be comfortable shifting between strategic thinking and tactical execution, often multiple times in a single day.

This is a highly visible and hands-on role requiring 8-10 years of Post-Qualified Experience (PQE), a broad legal skillset, strong business acumen, and a passion for leveraging technology to drive efficiency and scale our mission.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy (GC's Strategic Partner)

  • Act as the General Counsel's Strategic Partner and Right Hand, assuming day-to-day management of the legal function and serving as a decision-maker for operational legal matters while representing the legal perspective in key business discussions.

  • Assist the GC in developing and implementing the company's legal strategy, risk management framework, and governance policies.

  • Drive continuous improvement and scalability of the legal function, including measurable improvements in legal efficiency metrics.

Corporate & Commercial Legal Expertise

  • Commercial Focus: Supervise enterprise-level commercial contracts (e.g., MSAs, strategic partnership agreements) with major global employers who are leveraging our upskilling platform.

  • Corporate Focus: Lead and execute corporate legal matters including:

    • M&A: due diligence, transaction management, and post-merger integration

    • Fundraising: supporting equity and debt financing rounds

    • Corporate governance: board management, international subsidiary oversight, equity administration

    • Corporate structuring and group reorganisations

  • Data, AI & IP: Provide legal guidance on data privacy (GDPR, UK DPA 2018), information security, and AI governance- including responsible use of AI in our products and vendor tools. Manage the company's IP portfolio, including trademark and patent strategy, IP ownership in commercial agreements, and IP protection for proprietary AI coaching technology and platform features.

  • International expansion: Execute legal workstreams across multiple jurisdictions, including entity structuring, regulatory compliance, cross-border employment and data privacy requirements, and managing external counsel networks

Team Management & Legal Operations

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of in-house lawyers and legal professionals across corporate and commercial functions, fostering a culture of excellence, mission-alignment, and professional development.

  • Close the seniority gap by building out mid-level capability and succession planning within the team.

  • Design and implement scalable legal processes, templates, playbooks, and training programs for the business.

Legal Technology & Innovation

  • Act as a champion for the adoption of AI tools to increase team efficiency, reduce time-to-close, and free up legal time for strategic work, mirroring Multiverse's own commitment to leveraging AI and living and breathing our operating principle of "Using AI to Deliver Outcomes".

  • Stay current on emerging legal technology and best practices to continually optimise the legal function.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 8-10 years Post-Qualified Experience (PQE), demonstrating progressive responsibility in a dynamic, high-growth environment.

  • Mandatory in-house legal experience within the technology sector (SaaS, FinTech, Cloud, AI, or EdTech) is essential.

  • Demonstrated experience managing and leading teams (including performance reviews, mentoring, and hiring).

  • Deep expertise across both Corporate Law (M&A, financing, governance) and Commercial Law (complex contract negotiation).

  • Experience supporting international expansion, including navigating multi-jurisdictional regulatory environments and coordinating cross-border legal workstreams.

  • Proven ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, and act as a strategic business partner to C-suite and senior leaders.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid context-switching in a high-growth environment.

  • Track record of building scalable legal infrastructure (playbooks, templates, self-serve tools).

  • Strong enthusiasm for, and proven experience leveraging, legal technology, AI, or automation in a legal department setting.

  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

This role is ideal if you:

  • Value impact and influence over climbing a traditional hierarchy

  • Want to be a generalist powerhouse rather than specialise narrowly

  • Thrive on variety and problem-solving across the full legal spectrum

  • Are energised by building and optimising systems, teams, and processes

  • Want to be at a scale-up inflection point where your contributions directly shape outcomes

This role may not be right if you're primarily seeking:

  • A clear path to General Counsel in the next 2-3 years

  • Deep specialisation in a single practice area

  • A large, established legal team structure

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to be the GC's strategic partner in a fast-growing, purpose-driven technology company that is changing the future of work and education.

  • Exceptional breadth and autonomy

  • Direct partnership with the GC as a trusted consigliere, with significant influence on team strategy.

  • The chance to build and shape the legal function's future infrastructure and team culture.

  • Competitive salary, equity package, and benefits commensurate with a Legal Director role.

  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial, and inclusive culture defined by our mission to equip the workforce to win in the AI era.

  • Significant scope for professional growth and innovation.

Benefits:

  • Time off - 27 days holiday, plus 7 additional days off: 1 life event day, 2 volunteer days, 2 company-wide wellbeing days and 8 bank holidays per year

  • Health & Wellness- private medical Insurance with Bupa, a medical cashback scheme, life insurance, gym membership & wellness resources through Gympass and access to Spill - all in one mental health support

  • Hybrid setup - with 3 days a week in our London Paddington office and the opportunity to work from anywhere 10 days a year

  • Team fun - weekly socials, company wide events and office snacks
