The Role

We are a dynamic and innovative Series D tech company headquartered in the UK, committed to transforming how businesses and finance leverage technology and AI to drive performance. Our finance team propels the business forward to achieve ambitious growth goals. As the Financial Reporting and Tax Accountant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting processes.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will assist in all aspects of financial reporting, including month-end close, financial statements preparation, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

This role offers a unique chance to accelerate your career by taking ownership of internal and external reporting, driving process improvements, and spearheading automation initiatives using AI. You’ll gain hands-on exposure to scaling a business while working with incredible senior leaders and preparing us for the complexities of becoming IPO ready.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Month-End Close

  • Support the end-to-end month-end closing process, ensuring the delivery of timely, accurate, and complete financial statements.

  • Prepare all balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and accruals.

  • Produce the monthly management accounts pack, complete with insightful variance analysis and commentary for senior leadership.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to shorten the closing cycle and enhance reporting quality through process automation and the adoption of new financial technologies.

  • Implement AI initiatives to shorten the monthly closing cycle through process automation and insightful variance analysis & commentary.

  • Review payment runs and process supplier payments in the bank.

  • Collaborate with FP&A and other teams within the business.

Statutory Audit & Compliance

  • Support the annual statutory audit process, serving as a key point of contact for external auditors and delivering to project timelines.

  • Support the preparation of the statutory financial statements in accordance with IFRS or UK GAAP (FRS 102).

  • Developing and implementing robust revenue recognition policies for new revenue streams as the business evolves, ensuring compliance with IFRS 15 and ASC 606.

  • Maintaining compliance with global accounting standards and tax requirements across the UK, US and Europe.

  • Working with external auditors, tax advisors, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless reporting and compliance.

  • Implement AI initiatives to help automate and prepare audit schedules & supporting documentation.

  • Ensure all statutory and regulatory filings (e.g. Companies House) are completed accurately and on time.

Tax & Payroll Controls

  • Review corporate tax compliance, including the preparation and submission of VAT, Corporation Tax, and other relevant returns to HMRC.

  • Review payroll accounting, journal entries and control accounts to ensure compliance with statutory requirements (e.g. BIK, pensions).

  • Liaise with external advisors to ensure compliance.

Automation & Scalability

  • Actively identify, evaluate, and implement opportunities for automation across month-end, reporting, tax, and payroll control processes.

  • Champion the use of existing system capabilities and AI technologies to reduce manual effort, improve accuracy, and enhance controls.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) is essential. Big 4 audit experience preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and regulations, and awareness of US GAAP is an advantage.

  • Experience and understanding of UK and US tax compliance laws and regulations.

  • A detail-oriented mindset focused on accuracy and efficiency in managing financial data and transactions.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams at all levels.

  • Comfortable building relationships in a hybrid environment within a global company.

  • Proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and navigate ambiguity to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment, willing to roll up your sleeves when needed.

  • Proficiency in financial systems and tools (e.g. NetSuite, Excel/Google Sheets).

  • Minimum of 2 years of post-qualification experience, with a demonstrable track record in a similar role within the industry.

  • In-depth technical knowledge of IFRS and UK GAAP (FRS 102).
