About the role:
At Modular, we are committed to transforming the world by making AI accessible to all. As a Mojo Standard Library Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in advancing this vision. The Mojo language provides a streamlined way to develop libraries and interact with the Python ecosystem. In this role, you will own designing and implementing Mojo standard libraries that enable developers to efficiently harness the potential of AI technologies.
LOCATION: Candidates based in the US or Canada are welcome to apply. You can work remotely from home.
What you will do:
- Utilize the Mojo programming language to write the standard library.
- Actively participate in designing and implementing new features for the Mojo standard library.
- Work with internal Modular teams to deliver APIs that balance ergonomics, expressibility, and performance.
- Debug and fix issues found in the standard library by internal and open source users.
- Optimize existing library functions for performance and memory usage.
- Participate in code reviews to maintain high code quality standards.
- Collaborate with other teams to understand their needs and how the standard library can support them.
- Partner with the open source community to ensure contributions meet our high quality standards while promoting an inclusive and constructive community atmosphere.
- Research new technologies and methodologies to improve the quality of the Mojo standard library.
What you bring to the table:
- Expertise in modern C++/Rust/Swift with a strong understanding of system-level programming, optimizing performance, and memory management.
- Experience with Python and its ecosystem of libraries. Deep interest in both library design and performance, and love to track modern API designs in evolving languages, such as modern C++/Rust/Swift core libraries and features.
- Experience with open source projects by either managing community contributions or contributing to open source projects.
- Creativity and curiosity for solving complex problems, a team-oriented attitude that enables you to work well with others, and alignment with our culture.
- Strongly identifies with our core company cultural values.
Helpful but not required:
- Mojo experience with an accepted patch in the Mojo standard library.
- LLVM, MLIR, or Python experience is a bonus.
- Active in the Python community is a bonus.
The estimated base salary range for this role to be performed in the US, regardless of the state, is $166,000.00 - $286,000.00 USD.
The estimated base salary range for this role to be performed in Canada, regardless of the province, is $157,000.00 - $270,000.00 CAD.
The salary for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of permissible, non-discriminatory job-related factors, which include but are not limited to education, training, work experience, business needs, or market demands. This range may be modified in the future. The total compensation for a candidate will also include annual target bonus, equity, and benefits, with equity making up a significant portion of your total compensation.
For candidates who fall outside of the listed requirements, we nevertheless encourage you to apply as we may have openings that are lower/higher level than the ones advertised.
